Great result for last home game of the season. If some of the 14 goals we scored in two games v Sunderland and Aston Villa had been shared around a few other games where we got nothing or 1 point after dominating the game then we would be in CL spot, for one thinking about away game at Stoke. However that's football and i am well made up with this season as it is. Mane, Pelle & Long were superb. Cant wait to see JRod back in the mix with these guys next season.

It is up the boys to give their all next week, get a result at City and anything can happen.
Sadly wasn't at St Mary's yesterday, an early game thwarted me.
From the snatches of play I have seen including M.O.D some of the football at times was breath taking. I have seen on many occasion the replay involving Pelle's offside effort. Goodness me that would have been a catastrophic decision had there been a different result. Sadly we have had a few like that go against us but I guess it evens itself out over a season.
Nice to see Long, Mane and co have a good one.....although it does annoy me a bit when I hear people say Villa were below par and similar comments. Then they add saints played well as an after thought!
It was Saints play that made them look like they were having an off day, causing their back 4 to make mistake after mistake.
Nothing should be allowed to take how Saints played away from them. Saints were top notch yesterday!!

Do you prefer a rocket from distance or a team goal?
They're all great and although it was great vision and execution from Long, that Pelle goal was wonderous one touch football.

Another stat I've not seen on this thread

The ball was in play for 64 seconds of the 2m 56 of the Mane hat tick

Exactly...I was explaining to a friend that the time between the 1st and 3rd goal included celebrations with fans, cuddling every team mate, wandering back to position while still clapping the fans, and the opposition kicking off twice. Amazeballs (the very first accurate use of that word on the internet).

Par for the course for us sadly. Every time we got a convincing win recently the pundits, columnists et al. have fallen over themselves to try to explain it as the losing teams failure and giving us only cursory credit. They're not always wrong..Sunderland and Newcastle were god-awful when we played them....but it seems to be given as the reason for pretty much every win we've had lately (the Chelsea draw too iirc.)

... and I'm going to have to agree with you Tintin. You can't play in the PL and be tactically unaware. He looks that way because he's playing instinctively. It doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's doing. Unlike some instinctive players he also has great control and can assess a situation as well. He is always looking for an opportunity to attack and is willing to take responsibility rather than always staying within a sometimes predictable pass & move system. However he was still there to support the defence. Maybe not every time, but you can't have everything. Agreeing with another post I also loved watching him stalk the Villa defence.

May have already been said but well done to Paulo who I think answered his critics yesterday. With Cody looking good at u21 level, do we need another GK?

I disagree. For the Pelle goal for example, he knew where every Villa defender was, let Djuricic pull some out of position, checked before the one two, and gave a perfect first time cross because he knew Pelle was clear.

Its his tactical astutness that makes him se hard to play against, and I think we've missed this kind of creativity since Lallana left.

Got there as the teams were coming out - did they have Nigel Adkins on the pitch before kick off?

If so - what did he say?

If you were to be cliched, you'd call him a mercurial talent.

Today's Talk Sport home page has nothing about Sadio's record hat trick nor the 6 goal tally. Just the usual Liverpool, Gerrard, Arsenal rubbish. If Kane or Man U had scored those goals it would have been a real love in!

What is it with the national media and Saints? Surely not a hang over from Cortesse's time?

Nope. It's all about ratings. The media perception is that everybody wants to hear more about what they've already been served up. Don't expect a commercial radio station to go out on a limb and actually present something out of the mainstream.

Not really..though was mentioned by the other pundits. James remarked that it was just because he always won when he came to St Marys.
