Even you must admit the farewell tour is well over the top. It's unprecedented although if it was going to be demanded by one player it would be a Liverpoool player and specifically Stevie Me. You'd have thought it was a World Cup winning captain retiring not an underachieving, error prone, self centred, Hollywood midfielder!
This How can a so called premiership legend not win even a single league title? He always stumbles when the going gets tough. Even when he was close to winning it, he slipped and lost it for his team. To me his loyalty is the big thing but in terms of ability he is not even among the top 10 premiership players. True legends take their teams to the top and win titles. He is an "almost" legend.
Maybe it could be renamed in honour of Brendan Rodgers although it would need to be renamed again around Christmas time.
The fact he's got his own thread named after him on the Utd board with over 6000 replies speaks volumes. Obviously most/all Utd fans can't stand the guy, but surely you can admire his commitment and talent that's he's displayed for 17 years. I certainly admired the likes of Giggs and Scholes, although thought they were both complete ****ers The media are going overboard. But there's no question the PL is losing one of it's greatest ever midfielders today. If you can't admit that then the bias is so powerful you probably need some elecro-therapy.
I dont know understand all the love in with Gerrard, yes on his day he was an excellent player but his day didn't happen too often. He couldn't dribble, had no pace and most of his goals were penalties he was an one team player which is ok but nearly did leave Liverpool before all his family were threatened now the Liverpool fans can't wait to get rid rid been slagging him off all season because Rodgers was selecting him and most of his match winning goals haven't been against the greatest sides. The way the press and pundits have been going on is that he was a world class footballer who did everything for Liverpool apart from winning the League, since 2006 what has he done for Liverpool apart from win the League Cup against Cardiff and he didn't really do anything in that game against a world class side. He might sneek into the Top 10 of the Premier League players but then that would be mostly Liverpool fans saying that. His England career was even worse all I can remember him doing for England was scoring against Germany in a 5-1 win his other 100 and odd appearances I couldn't remember another thing he did except the bad ie: the back pass which Henry scored for France against England and the header he flicked on for Suarez against Uruguay so forgive me for all the love in for Gerrard that is going on at the moment but people are looking back through rose tinted glasses. Good luck in the future though.
That just stinks of someone that hasn't watched him week in week out for 17 years. I think you assume he only had the chance to move from Liverpool once? Most of the top managers have admitted they tried to sign Gerrard at some point throughout his career, but he didn't want the move. I think the only one that he seriously considered was the Chelsea move, but decided against it - not due to threats though!! Clearly you're a red top rag reader The comments about England are true. But you could say the same about every English player for the last 10 odd years!!
I've been in bits for days. It only really sank in that he was leaving when there was all the coverage about his last game at Stamford Bridge. Now he's just about to play his last game at Anfield and next week it's the big one, his last game at the Britannia Stadium. In bits I tell you.
Looking at your favourite Gerrard moments (Liverpool forum) I see the two best are 2005 v AC and 2006 v Hammers is there any more that stand out maybe the goal against Olympiakos but that was a 30 yard strike and they can be hit and miss and that was in 2004/05 season as well, what else can you remember. I do keep in touch with football and will say yeah Gerrard has/had a great engine but so did Carlton Palmer I think people are looking back through history and yeah he was a legend for Liverpool but one of the Premier Leagues best midfielders not for me 17 years at a big club like Liverpool and only 1 trophy since 2006 isn't that great really Wigan have won exactly the same in that time and a bigger trophy really. So like I said the love in is over the top, its not that he hasn't played with some world class players as well Alsono, Mascherano, Reina, and Torres (in his prime) and they didn't win a trophy with that side is criminal really. PS. That just stinks of someone that hasn't watched him week in week out for 17 years. Only Liverpool fans would do that surely so you what went wrong?
Do you mind revealing your age? I only say that as the comments seem similar to when I talk to my 13 year old... Son "Whats the score?" Me "1-0" Son "was it a good goal?" Me "does it really matter?" Son "was it a good goal?" Me "not bad" Son "oh" I personally remember the grit that he showed week in week out, and his professionalism around the club for so long. The goals were just the icing on top.
Whats age got to do with it, not happy with my reply so you say I must be a 13 year old, I've seen Liverpool games (in the flesh)with Gerrard playing Dalglish playing Souness playing McDermott playing Whelan playing McMahon playing Molby playing Rush playing Redknapp playing Alonso playing Mascherano playing even Michael Thomas playing so I think I'm a bit older then 13 mate. At the end of the day when it really matters, when you need a game changing moment Gerrard hasn't done anything of note since 2005 and 2006 which is 10 years ago which is what I'm basing my opinion on.
Wrong again!! Gerrard has made the difference in more games than I can count since then. I respect your opinion, and I wasn't suggesting you were 13!! I was just using my 13 year old son as an example Like you've said you don't watch Liverpool week in week out (like I don't watch Newcastle week in week out). Therefore your opinion is based on clips, and perhaps the odd game here and there. Whereas I barely miss a game that Liverpool play, whether it be live or on the TV/internet. But I agree that he's not the player he once was, and for me it's the right time for him to move on. The only point I came on this thread to make is that the PL is about to lose one of it's best players of all time. Whether you're a Liverpool fan or not, that is a fact - and anyone that denies it needs to get a check up from the neck up. I certainly didn't come here to have silly arguments, so apologies if I offended you in any way
No worries its all about opinions like I say you will say he is a legend because your a Liverpool fan but for other fans its how we remember Gerrard. Apologies to you if you were offended also. PS. Im not a Newcastle fan lol I am a Darlington supporter.
That's fair enough but it's hardly surprising ppl are getting sick of the w@nkfest on radio and tv today. Especially considering that better, more influential prem players didn't get anywhere near the same sychophantic drooling on their last home game. Viera, Shearer, Scholes, Giggs, Henry, Marlon Harewood just a few examples. If anyone has any doubts about the infestation and influence of ex-liverpool players in our media, they just need to switch the tv or radio on for 5 mins. Great player though and glad he's leaving for obvious reasons
Ridiculous blanket coverage of a non event by the RS supporting media. Last match for the RS by a player not good enough to play for other top teams or even to win a single title. So what? Usual hypocrisy from the same fans calling for him to be dropped now crying at his leaving... #crocodiletears
I am struggling to think of any sports person ever who has not won enough yet warranted a media lovefest like we're witnessing today. Literally cant think of anyone but I could be wrong.
Come on guys the game means **** all now so please don't buy off the ref or dive like **** against Hull It's worth it for the Geordie #meltdown
See BBC was voting for the greatest ever Premier League midfielder Stevie G was on 36.2% and Scholes on 29.7% now Gerrard 30.8% and Scholes 34.2% nearest rival Lampard 11.5%.
