Actually hemp/cannabis/whatever was never on the the UK's list of drugs to be made illegal when it was first drawn up in the 19th century. It was some kind of universal international agreed list but apparently there were one or two countries who refused to be bound by the agreement unless cannabis was included. So the UK (and likely other countries) agreed, hence making cannabis illegal. Even though that was never intended.

In this case he's not likely to get much sympathy, he's been an integral part of, to put it very mildly, a misfiring midfield all season. Previously we wondered why, now we wonder whether we know why.

There can't be an innocent explanation. Whether he took it willingly, knowingly or not, responsibility lies with the player to make sure they stay away from these things. If it's in your system, it's in your system and that's final.

If you could get away with saying you must have been spiked, everyone would be at it.

Again, I believe that is unfair. If we all threw out accusations, based on suspicion, then society would be in real trouble. These threads bear testimony to that.

The key point you forget to mention is that it is still illegal. We are talking about legalizing it.

It doesn't matter to me if he was our best player or worst player.

Agreed, my eldest lad has a job were random drug testing takes place, he wouldn't even have a spliff if he was in Amsterdam let alone cocaine, and he probably earns per annum what Livermore earns in a week, why should Livermore be any different?

The FA/WADA classes Cocaine as a stimulant ie performance enhancer. To be found with it in his system on a match day makes it classed as in competition, basically cheating. And obviously comes with a more severe punishment.

Well that was kind of what I meant when I said cannabis was grown here despite being illegal. But cocaine isn't.

Look at it this way - coffee and tea are natural plants, and fully legal worldwide but the UK produces zilch.

That's not completely accurate. There are certain medications that test positive as narcotics and then a retest is needed to determine if it was a prescription drug or an illegal drug.

I think you're badly missing the point, his alleged choice of leisure activity could potentially play a large part in costing his employer millions and get us relegated. I never said anything about him being our best or worst player. For those reasons I have absolutely no sympathy with the situation he has engineered for himself.

Cocaine clearly isn't that type of drug. It's escaping my mind which type of medication it is but it comes up all the time as a opioid I think, maybe a barbituate. I'd have to look it up.

What's the normal sampling procedure with these things, and what stage are we at?

Do they take a screening sample and follow it up with something more intense?
