Seems like it's all approved, (about bloody time) and gonna look canny.. The correct location? Sunderland’s £100m bridge will cross Wear within three years – and it’ll be taller than Big Ben http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/...rs-and-it-ll-be-taller-than-big-ben-1-7259664 please log in to view this image
judging by the St Mary's Way, and the Vaux site what is over budget and over schedule - I'll believe it'll be completed in the same fashion
the current works in the city centre have run over budget and is over schedule (was due to be completed by early 2015) - the new crossing is likely to go the same way
Why does it have to boast a feature at expense. Just put a ****ing basic bridge down and invest the left over money elsewhere I say. Not my town though so I'd better shut up
Your spot on, its not surprising that things are badly costed and never completed on time it is our councils wasteful way. I have just witnessed 4 huge vehicles and at least 6 men involved in filling in a hole in the road, no bigger than cubic metre.
Nothing grinds my gears more than one bloke grafting with three or four others stood watching him graft.
You forgot the 5 Departmental Managers, 2 Accountants, 4 Personnel Managers and 59 Health & Safety Officers who sent them to fill the hole in!
Only for them to get the consistency wrong and by this time next year the replacement tarmac has already perished
I hope its lit up on a night to look fantastic. I'm glad its not just a basic bridge. In the longterm it will be a landmark for Sunderland. We need more.
I quite agree with you. Why should Sunderland folk put up with being second best to that filth up the road?
They could have spent £10 m on the bridge and used the rest to bring Ronaldo here ! The Fatfield bridge is ok so why not the same ? I see they have already started at Wessington way, beside the dentists' surgery.
You're going for the City of Culture, you're going to have grants coming out of your arsehole to put new landmarks up, the city is going to be transformed by this anyway. If it were my council i'd rather they milked that and use their budget to right as many wrongs as possible. Anyway, I'm no expert
The fat field bridge is about 20 meters long. This new bridge is close to the mouth of the wear so might cost a few pennies more
