Good luck stick. I hope he runs a cracker. Timeform says: Off the mark in a Windsor handicap last month, and stuck to task well when third at Kempton (1m) off this mark subsequently. However, not sure that step back up in trip here will be in his favour. They might be wrong with this one. Stiff straight 10f on turf, wide galloping track. Get in.
The Dante looks the best flat race of the season so far and its Golden Horn 11/2 for me obviously but take your pick. Also like the same owners Belle Dor 7/1 in the fillies race.
I like Elm Park. JFK and Ol Man River will both improve for their debuts but would have to. Couldn't back the fav. Looked awesome off 85 in a handicap but all of this lot would as well
I am going for RIBBONS (2.40) and ELM Park (3.15) in a double it is about 29/1 with PP. Should get a run anyway.
Hello all, Here are where my arrows will be going tomorrow. To explain the choices I am trying something this week where I look at each horse in a race and note there total runs vs wins and then work out their win average, the best average is the pick and below are what i was left with for tomorrow: York 210- Perfect Pasture 240- Ribbons 315- Jack Hobbs 350-Off Art 420- Zuhoor Bayoona 450- Sir Roger Moore 520- Moscato Perth 230- Antilope Du Seuil 305-Tikkandemickey 335- Peter Grey 410-The Banistor 440- Sands Artist 510- Royal Mcnab
In the Dante tomorrow all about ELM PARK have backed him for the Derby aswell as a small double put in tomorrow too !
Doesn't Elm Park need a little cut in the ground to be seen to his best? All of his wins barring 1 had soft in the description and he was pulled the last day due to good ground!
SQUIRE is really well lads and in sparkling form on the gallops. Wouldn't mind a drop of rain and we just might get a couple of hours worth pre-race tomorrow. 7's looked generous to me and its gone now!
I'm expecting Jack Hobbs to win impressively tomorrow. I know it was only a handicap he won but to win by 12 lengths eased up on only his 2nd start is a sign that he's a hugely talented horse. I'm already on him big for the Derby at 16s and 12s. But I've just had another bet on him at 11/4 for tomorrow. John Gosden has been playing down his chances, but that is how he always plays things when he has a good one, not wanting to tempt fate. I think the fact Gosden has given him an eclipse entry, is a truer reflection of how highly he rates him.
Something about the Sandown win did look spectacular. Elm Parks form looks ordinary in the context of the Derby even though he beat everything in front of him and though the trip will suit. JFK has not trained on IMO and has questionable head carriage. JACK HOBBS to win the Dante. Not so convinced he will win the Derby as an undulating mile and a half doesnt look like what he wants to my untrained eye (he's a big big horse who might be suited by a galloping track) but 10f at York he can show that Sandown was not a fluke (despite the exaggerated winning distance IMO down to underperforming opposition).
Good Luck tomorrow Stick - I will be backing ya fella to win that one. I would be happier were it at a mile as there is no unproven element and I feel a mile suits because he sees it out really well. The reason I am still backing him however is that I think the opposition is not up to much, of course there are a couple of dangers as there would be in any handicap but that race is not strong. I think the track is right and that the horse showed ability at Windsor enough to take another couple of races before reaching his handicap mark proper. I hope Rab will wind him up nice and early and play catch me if you can from the furlong pole as he will not change gear quickly but will hit a top speed that will see him home if staying the extra distance. On other matters it's hard to reconcile the prices of Jack Hobbs and Elm Park and I have gone for Elm Park as 7-2 could be value.
I row in with Bluesky, so it's Elm Park for me in the Dante. It is 70 years since Dante won the Derby for the North and cemented the reputation of Phil Bull. I think La Superba will win at Newmarket tonight and I'm hoping for a good seasonal debut from Islington's latest daughter Angel Vision. La Superba is a sister to the good stayer Thomas Hobson and after a quiet 2yo career in Ireland was sent to Elsworth who has brought her along slowly. Tonight may be her night.
I don't feel the trip is an issue, he stays ok. Happier to have him back on turf and hope he settles into his rhythm early. Agree with Bluesky that if our boy runs to the top of his game we have little to fear in this field.
Best of luck with Squire fellas Ascension Day / Fathers Day here in Germany which is a bank holiday so it will be feet up with a cold beer to take in the Dante this afternoon
