KP is obviously the best batsman in England but to suggest that Andrew Strauss should build the team around him is a bit like saying Jose Fonte should have Dani Osvaldo first on his team sheet. We have to take the long view and build the team around young batsmen like Root. So, we might get thrashed in the Ashes but that's a price worth paying if we can rebuild from the bottom. And it would still probably happen even if Pietersen was picked.
I'm not really thinking about KP and his personal situation, i'm looking at it as a fan and for me England cricket is as low as its been in my life time, as a fan i see our best player not being used then yeah i'm going to question the management and i wonder if they really do have the best interests of england cricket at heart or if it is a petty personal situation thats keeping our best player from being picked. I have never known an English international at any sport be told that he will not be picked. Even John Terry retired rather than getting sacked and he was an alleged racist sleeping with a team mates missus!
KP is the best english batsman Osvaldo isn't even the best saints striker so not really the same at all.
They are grown men so they have had fall outs who gives a ****, surely in the interest of English sport and the English fans this really should of been sorted. Its not a club team its a national team and that is a huge difference.
I went to see The Prodigy last night and as a result have a blistering hangover - so apologies Chilco if I'm not quite on form when I see you later! I'll be the one drinking lots of water who looks a bit like Eric Cantona...
Of course it should, but that is NOT my point.. Back to my point as people seem to be boxing me in the wrong box. I said that Tom gave it the "I don't blame KP for how he feels" and my point AGAIN is, well it is his behavior that ****ed this, so that is why I don't agree with the sentiment of "I don't blame him for how he feels" approach. As for the club or country bit, it is no difference at all, as it is a team and they have to play together and live together. In cricket, playing for England is in fact like playing for a club. Just to underline again, my point is not about whether KP should be playing for England or not, it is about whether people should be feeling sorry for him or sympathizing with his feelings. He made his bed, so tough **** and you are right Kitch - HE is a grown man, so why is he still bleating on about it?
So, you are responding to my post, making a point about something different to me - maybe make the point without the response to my post, then I won't think you are aiming the point at me Ps. Alan Hudson was banned for playing for England for 3 years, because Alf Ramsey didn't like him. One example right off the top of my head
KP, terrific batsman to watch when he is on the charge BUT the world does not revolve around him and he must be incredibly difficult for the together players to deal with. It is a team game and team members do need to gel, even if not big buddies. KP needs to bugger off back to the IPL bang a few over the rope, collect his dosh and leave the England team to sort itself out without him. And it will - KP is not the be all and end all !
Could be worse, they could have picked KP and played him out of position on the left wing in an abandoned match against Northern Ireland... (Not bitter still, honest...)
Most of what they're doing is common sense, using an existing character who's not doing anything in the books instead of introducing a new one. Especially good is that they Spoiler cut out the bit with the other Targaryen
No idea who Alan Hudson is but cheers for the info. Was he the best english footballer of that era? My point does relate to your point i agree that KP is an idiot but your saying that he's made a mistake so therefore he has no future with England. This to me is childish and not the way adults and professionals should do business. Again i will say that if it was for his county then fair enough he would have his contract terminated and move on, International level is very different, you cannot have your best players being sacked because other players/management don't get on with him.
And just to make it clear at no point have i said i sympathize with KP. your right he has bought alot of this on himself but none of it in my view means that he should be banned from representing England again.
One of a list of footballing mavericks who in the 70's and 80's only got a splattering of caps between them. Check out ITV4 Football Mavericks on their player thingy. It really is an excellent series. Episode 2 was last night. Only three in it. Some talented footballers wasted.
Or played him and made him the scapegoat for a failed world cup qualifier, when a **** keeper got beaten at the near post and the only player who looked like creating anything was substituted
I will have a look i'm guessing it must be available on demand. I will search through the sky box when i get home.
