Only problem is when he gets inside his final ball or shooting isn't as brilliant as it should be. He's young and can improve obviously but he'll never be a natural goal acorer scoring 15 goals a season regularly in my opinion.

Winger Jordon Ibe, 19, is one of four Liverpool players refusing to sign an improved contract
Liverpool have made a tentative approach to AC Milan regarding the availability of 28-year-old forward Jeremy Menez. (Tuttosport - in Italian

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes the Reds' failure to qualify for the Champions League will see England forward Raheem Sterling, 20, quit the club.

Liverpool and Man United transfer target Christian Benteke shelves Aston Villa exit decision until after summer internationals

It's believed the Villans won't stand in the way of Belgium striker also linked with Chelsea and Roma if they receive an offer of £32million for him

    • Striker Benteke’s sensational form for Aston Villa has fired them to the brink of safety from relegation and into an FA Cup Final against Arsenal on May 30.
He has two years left on his current contract and Villa plan to offer him a new deal this summer.
But the in-demand 24-year-old, snapped up from Genk in his homeland for £7m in 2012, is not intending to sign an extension - and MirrorSport understands Villa are unlikely to stand in his way if they receive an offer of £32m for him.
Benteke has scored 11 goals in 12 games under new boss Tim Sherwood after rediscovering his top form following Achilles surgery that knocked him out of last summer's World Cup and for the pre-season.
The player will choose where his future lies after Belgium play a friendly against France on June 7 and a vital qualifier away to Wales five days later.
Villa are likely to be taken over this summer, with three different groups bidding to buy-out want-away owner Randy Lerner.

32 seems a very specific number why not 31 or 33

Benteke would be such a waste of money. Spending that much money on a player who is used to battling relegation is farcical.

If people think Mario is bad, watch Benteke ...

i don't think battling relegation is a good way to look at any player.

its the fact he's played about a 1/3 of a season at best with villa every time and looks lazy as sin in the winter months especially.

in fiarness to him he's un playable at times and have pulled them out of the fire what 3 times now? the fact is if he ever hit 20 goals in a league season they'd be better off.

You're right - but when you're going to spend £30m on a player, I expect him to either be the best young talent of his generation, or a player entering his prime, good experience at a biggish club, experience of top level football who is used to the expectation of winning every week. Arsenal spent £35m on Sanchez who won LA Liga's etc, Chelsea bought Costa who had won La Liga etc etc.

Going back to Benteke's playing style - yep, he is lazy and it's amazing that fans are quick to welcome him to the club but berate Mario. Benteke feeds off long balls and crosses - he won't get that at Liverpool so that's his number 1 attribute rendered useless.

    Lacazette !!! Get in!!!!!

No we didn't sign him I am just practicing my celebrations if we ever successful.

That said, number one priority is a quality and fit striker. How we are 5th without a player in the double figures speaks volumes. We have a goal difference of 11 having scored only 49 goals. Spurs are languishing behind Liverpool with a 30 goal season striker. The reality is lack of a striker and not defense/midfield are to blame for our woes.

The reality is Sturridge will always get injured. If you look at the season we finished second, when Strurridge got injured we still had Suarez to turn to therefore his injuries during the December period were not as material as they have been this season.

On the flip side, Spurs have a 20 goal a season in Harry Kane but they're still sh*t. Point is, you can score goals but if you can't defend a lead, what's the point? Not only that, how many clear cut chances are we actually creating? If we brought in a striker, they won't have many chances because we're not creating anything.

And whilst people think that signing a DM or CM is defensive, it has the opposite effect. It means that the attacking players can go attack with more freedom.

Not saying that we don't need a striker because we clearly do - but midfield is also a top priority.

A player may perform well in one club and fails to meet the standard in another club. Example of this
is Andy Carroll, did well at Newcastle and not of Liverpool standard. Stan Collymore was excellent
at Nott Forest but not so at Liverpool.Benteke may be good for Villa but not that good for top premiership club.

All I am saying Jimmy is we managed a 5th with a very dodgy strike force. Sakho,Moreno and Lovern will be more settled after another year. Get a striker in and worry about the other positions later

Our number 1, 2 and 3 problems are lack of goals. End of

Striker should be no 1 priority. The depay stuff leads me to severely wonder

A rational competent club would be shoving 3 players out the door 24 hours after the season ends and solving this first then the midfield

    I would like to add:

we are being very disparaging of spurs here. They were not very good under Pochettino at the outset and took time to come to his style. I feel they have had a classic first seaosn under a new man and will improve next year so to say oh cos they had kane and were still ****e means lfc can do x or y is not the way IMO.

we are chasing top 4 not spurs. To chase top 4 we need better goalscoring.

The season has yet to end. I'm sure BR will ship players out.

  16. When Coutinho drops deep for the ball we become uncreative because there is no one to link up the play. When Coutinho stays in the hole it doesn't need a creative player to give him the ball, Coutinho makes it easy for the them to give it him with his movement and control.

Sorry, didn't realise you could only play the number ten role in certain ways according to time periods <doh>

Schooled...? Are you twelve years old <laugh>

which is why i said 24 hours after it does end.

The depay talk form the PSV side seems to show rodgers was quite happy to go with sturrdige as his lord and savior next year prior to hip injury. I'm personally skeptical about our strategic view

We have depended on strikers to score goals, if goals are not coming from the strikers our midfield and others cannot provide it.
    This must change.
