We had some success last season against the top clubs and but for the collapse of our season we might have had a significant bearing on how the title was decided. Do our signings this close season auger well for us becoming a team to be reckoned with this season? Man. Utd are in transition; Chelsea might see the changing of the old guard with their new manager coming in; Arsenal currently look to be in turmoil, Man City could well go from strength to strength; Liverpool- I'm not totally convinced by; Spurs, Everton might struggle to maintain what they have done in previous seasons so is this a season of opportunity if our players bed in quickly and we make a good start? My belief is now is not the time to settle for a season of steady improvement but to secure the two, maybe three players that could provide the basis for our best season in a very long time.
To be honest I'm more concerned about us picking up points against the rest of the league. We lost far too many against the likes of Stoke last season.
We've had a fair few decent results against the top clubs recently but as said above we NEED to beat everyone else for it to matter. I agree that this could be an opportunity to challenge the likes of Everton now that Villa have dropped off the map. I would love to think we could get top 8 and a long cup run!
We didn't beat any of the promoted teams at home last seasons, that's 9 points there's a starting point. We lost to Wolves also and only drew to brum. Winning our home games is key, our away form I feel improved last term if we can win a good few games away aswell as the majority of our home games I'll be quite satisfied.
To be fair, if it wasn't for some dreadful refereeing decisions we would have beaten Stoke at their place. As for the original question, I feel that we will not know until we see how our new team gels.
Well say take Man C Man U Chelsea and maybe Liverpool and Arsenal Then we need to concentrate on the others as being in a League we can win any points off the above teams away is a Bonus
Take away all the teams mentioned, then we have a chance to be fairly near the top of the league. There is a huge gulf between the top teams and the rest. Once they start putting a run of victories together then that gap may decrease.. If we can match Everton and Villa then we are making progress, small steps to try and close the gap. How Everton do it, is beyond me, is Moyes really that good? cos he's got a knack of keep plodding along.
Everton have some cracking players. arteta , fellaini, cahill, jagielka, heitinga, baines are top quality players add to that Neville, osman, saha, rodwell and coleman are solid players. They sorely lack a striker and strength in depth. They need a sugar daddy. I think strongest 11 they are 7th for me.
