No snotty comments please I was just wondering, so many clubs have supposed bogey teams.....Burnley being one of ours....but how can that really be the case ? All too often it is entirely different squads of players, different managers etc Is it really something as silly as being psychological ? The opponent knowing they generally win these fixtures while our own players know that irrespective of form that we tend to lose to that opposition ?
You are right about it being strange but I bet most of us turned up Saturday expecting to lose, I know I did.
F*****g pressure for gods sake. Pressure is when you can't afford your next mortgage payment or one of your family is very ill. These b*****s earn megabucks and can't be arsed. Most of the players have been dogshite all season and if they do feel under pressure it is all of their own making.
The fans pick up on the Inconsistency in the matches that are lost & the performances , ,which then morphs into the Fans adding pressure on the players by the atmosphere By showing their Discontent.
Pressure - it's all relative. It means different things to different people. Just cos you have £2m in the bank doesn't mean you are immune.
It's hardly pressure though. Taking a 50% pay cut when you are on £40k a week is **** all compared to a guy earning £300 a week going on short time or losing his job.
You are aware pressure comes in different forms? I'm ok financially but if I play a sport and I happen to be in a big game I still feel nerves and pressure. My bank account wouldn't affect how I feel. Whilst I'm no professional athlete it's still the same, nobody likes losing
I can understand your argument but the guy on £300 a week doesn't have to perform in front of 25000 people who have been booing him and telling him what a useless tosser he is. I know it's all part of the game but some of our players will never have been in this relegation threatened situation before.
Most of it is coincidence. They'll be few teams who we have a great record against and just won't really notice it, it's just because the Burnley one is negative that it's noticed. Another factor is that the ethos of a team will often stay the same for a fair few season even when a lot of the players change. Burnley have been a hard working team that rely a lot on effort more than skill, so when our "Big time Charlies" show up they're more likely to get beat.
These players are used to losing since early 2014. Most (not all) have quite happily picked up there £30k a week.(add your own number) without busting a gut. It pisses me right off. It's all about opinions isn't it. You might be happy defending these players under the tag " yes but they are under pressure". My dad told me to work my ass off for my pay. Sadly, these players did not have the same role model.
It's a bit of a sweeping generalisation but I see your point. All I'm pointing out is that they would feel pressure money, be it a surplus or a lack of, plays no part in the pressure you would feel whilst playing sports for the most part. I will accept that some players will not try due to the fact they know they'll get paid one way or another. As for defending them, I'm not really defending our players or the performance on saturday just defending the fact that Money and Pressure in this instance aren't linked as you're portraying
Excuses mate. Most of our team was involved last year in a relegation scrap. If they don't like being told what a useless tosser he is then stop playing like a useless tosser or go play non-league football for jackshit. Can't wait until Thursday HDM. 1 of the players will be saying "we have not given up yet".
Okay forget the money part. IMO the players do not feel the pressure because they know they will find another club. If we go down the better players will be off..make no mistake about that. it happens at all clubs. A normal worker feels the pressure every week because his employer could go bust, or reduces staff or relocates or short-time working etc.
