You don't fool me...none of you are real people. You exist solely in cyberspace to entertain me #onlyfranmatters
I nearly met Onionman at Leicester. It didn't happen though. *I wonder what he did with all that home made mayo he surely took to the game with him?*
In my original post, I said that the news weren't giving coverage to the protest during the day, but unfortunately the only publicity it got was the defacing of a memorial. I made it clear I didn't condone the vandalism, and stress that it is a shame that, a very valid and peaceful protest, was ruined by the senseless acts of the individuals. It is a headline, but a very negative one, and that is a shame.
But isn't that the point: most of them were exercising a democratic right to protest peacefully, but the effect of it was ruined by the vandalism. I'm sure they are angry that the vandalism has taken the headlines, because it wasn't the vast majority that were part of that. It is the whole case of the exception becoming the rule: If one of them did it, they all did it, so they are all as bad as each other. Not true at all. But, before people start jumping on me, I repeat that I thought the graffitti was deplorable.

I think protesting the Tories being elected right after a democratic vote is a little bit silly to be honest. Wait until they've done something to protest about, otherwise it just comes across as sour grapes.
Al, I didn't want my post to make out that you did think that about the vandalism - of course not. Just to be clear. I didn't even hear the whole news story; were they protesting against the new tory government?
Ah ... answered my question, in which case I agree. To protest immediately after an election does smack a little of sour grapes, whichever party had won.
This protest was hijacked by anarchists and the anti-democratic left as usual. They just provide the bullets for others to fire and get arrested for. They hide behind others...they pretend to support the poor and needy, but those are just the people who will suffer most in an anarchic state. The powerless would have no chance in a state where they are not protected by the law.
Hooliganism and vandalism is not exclusive to the extreme left, what about the skinheads of the EDL and BNP? I agree that the idiots that defaced the memorial have undermined the message of the march and the actions of the minority have punished the peaceful majority. Being against austerity does not make you an extremist, especially as I believe the savage cuts to public services are idealogically driven and not wholly necessary, but that is just my opinion. The right to protest is what makes this country special, without it there wouldn't have been polictical reform in the 19th century, voting rights for women through the Suffragettes and the protests in Cable Street against Moseley's Blackshirts in 1936 helped to stop the rise of fascism in Britain
without condoning violence or defacing a war memorial, I just wish some people, especially those on the right expressed the same degree of moral indignation at the thousands forced to use food banks, the disabled who have been hounded by the private agencies tasked with declaring them fit to work at any cost, and the sick people forced to wait for treatment due to ever increasing waiting lists, and rampant privatisation of the NHS as they do when 1 person with a spray can acts childishly. I fear for what this country will look like in 5 years time. 1 way ticket to Edinburgh for Olddellboy??
Part anti-austerity, and part electoral (Many wanted to let their voices be heard about the lack of proportional representation in our electoral system).
not so sure myself. Cameron looks minded to offer full fiscal autonomy, and by doing so, with boundary changes, and the near fatal collapse of the LibDems, this could give him control of England for generations to come. If fiscal autonomy includes an annual rent to keep the nuclear bases open in Scotland (despite it being against SNP policy) and oil prices pick up, then there is no reason why they cannot balance their budget without austerity. Welcome to the socialist republic of Caledonia.
