Labour needs to find the right balance.

It rightly fought the corner of the poor and disadvantaged ( benefits, zero hour contracts ) and attacked the favouring of the very rich. But it didn't have anything for the middle classes, who felt left out by Ed. What would labour do for people who aspire to stay in the middle or to improve? As long as labour focus their attention on one section, it will remain in opposition. People vote on hope. Especially in Scotland labour offered no vision and very little hope.

George Galloway to challenge Bradford West election result

please log in to view this image

Former MP George Galloway has announced he has started legal proceedings to challenge his general election defeat.
Mr Galloway, leader of the Respect Party, lost his Bradford West seat to Labour's Naz Shah, who he has alleged made "false statements" during the campaign to affect the result.
He also claimed "widespread malpractice" involving postal voting meant the result must be "set aside".
A Labour spokesman said the action was "pathetic and without any foundation".
Mr Galloway won the Bradford West seat in a by-election in 2012, but lost to Ms Shah - who secured a majority of more than 11,000 in last week's general election.
However, the bitter campaign was dogged by claims and counter-claims between Labour and Respect over a number of issues - particularly relating to Ms Shah's family background.
Labour accused Mr Galloway of breaching election law by making false statements during the campaign.
    'Divisive politics'
A spokesman for Mr Galloway said the legal action was at an early stage.
A complaint had been made under section 106 of the Representation of the People Act 1983, which related to candidates making false statements during campaigns, the spokesman said.
In a further statement, Mr Galloway - a former Labour MP - said: "It has come to my notice that there has been widespread malpractice in this election, particularly over postal voting.
"We are in the process of compiling the information which will form part of our petition to have the result set aside."
A Labour spokesman said: "George Galloway should accept he was booted out by the people of Bradford West.
"They saw through his divisive politics and made a positive choice, by a majority of well over 11,000, to elect a brilliant new MP, Naz Shah."
Mr Galloway was reported to police on Thursday for allegedly sending a tweet about exit polls before voting closed - which is banned under election law.
His spokesman called the allegation a "storm in a thimble".

Cameron includes newly elected MP Boris Johnson to his cabinet, Johnson then says he'll accept his place in the cabinet but vows to put all of his time and effort into his final years as London Mayor.

This is the kind of **** that shows British politics is a joke, a vote on decisions and policies that affect every man, woman and child in the UK from a man more bothered about making London richer and more prosperous to the detriment of the rest of the nation.

In fairness that applies to most of them, keep everything focussed on London and the South East, **** the frozen North.

Ivan Lewis: Labour wrong to abandon One Nation politics
Shadow cabinet minister argues that party can win again only if it builds up support in the ‘mainstream majority’ encompassing people from all backgrounds

The Labour party made a bad mistake when it abandoned its campaign to create an era of One Nation politics after the idea was “written off as a failed brand”, the shadow cabinet minister Ivan Lewis has said. In a frank account of Labour’s failings, the shadow Northern Ireland secretary says the party will only win again if it builds up support in the “mainstream majority” encompassing people from all backgrounds.
Writing in the Guardian, Lewis calls for a lengthy leadership election to allow the party to come to terms with its heavy defeat before choosing a new leader. He says he has no problems with former special advisers standing for the leadership, but warns that Labour must not follow the Tories in being seen as the “born to rule party”.
The shadow Northern Ireland secretary writes: “Closed cliques – whether advisers who served during the Blair-Brown years, or 2010-intake MPs – are unhealthy and will lead to poor decisions and further public alienation. It is the Tories, not we, who are the ‘born to rule party’. We need the right leader supported by the right team to take the fight to the Tories and win the argument about the future. We can do it – but only if we learn the right lessons from the past.”
Labour’s failure to appeal across Britain explains Ed Miliband’s mistake in abandoning his mission, outlined in his conference speech in 2012, to champion a One Nation Britain, Lewis says. He writes: “Perhaps the greatest challenge facing us in the years ahead will be our capacity to keep the UK together. Ensuring the majority in all parts of our country feel they are getting a fair deal and combining head and heart in a patriotism that can defeat nationalism.
“One Nation Labour could have been the vehicle to make this case and win the argument. Sadly, it was allowed to wither, written off as a failed brand, when it was meant to be a project every bit as profound as the development of New Labour.”
The next leader should seek to bind the UK by establishing a constitutional convention to examine future structures of governance for the UK. Lewis writes: “David Cameron’s appalling but sadly politically effective divide-and-rule approach to the union leaves a vacuum that Labour should fill. If he is unwilling to do so, we should proceed with our proposed constitutional convention. This should provide a strong voice for Northern Ireland and Wales as well as England and Scotland. It should consider all options including a federal state.”

My point was more about him admitting he's going to put more time and effort into his mayoral role than his place in government.

Why choose him instead of someone that will focus entirely on their cabinet post, why accept a place in the cabinet if you know you won't be giving it 100%?

Its obvious sometime in the near future he will have a vote as a cabinet member that will benefit London, so the wooly headed **** shouldn't have dual responsibility.

  17. We've spent the last five years struggling with funding issues with one main comment that kept cropping up; "we just need to get through this conservative government, once Labour are back in some funds should start to seep down" No way we'll get through another five years so that's **** it <laugh>

As in let him privatize the NHS or try to.
