He's talking about an old fashioned concept called "sportsmanship". It used to mean a lot to some of us back in the day.

The first qualifying round is also held in the first two weeks of July...before our preseason even starts.
Would we not have earned 7th place if that's where we come? I think so and if 7th qualifies for Europe, the we've earned it. If we finish 7th then I want Arsenal to win the cup because I think we've earned it. I have been disappointed with our tail off, but come on people, let's not let this sour our view if an incredible job Koeman has done. He deserves Europe and thus, so do we.
I just don't understand the feeling of not wanting to qualify because of what it might/likely will do to our season next time. I have trawled through the Championship season posts (not really ), looking for those people who didn't want to get promoted because our season the following. Year wouldn't be so good. Here's some breaking news: football clubs try to do their best and finish as high as they can. Does anyone not want us to qualify for the Champions League because it will effect our league form the following season? Come on fans, let's be proud to see our team in Europe, because you never know next season might not be as good as this season in the league anyway!!
Agree with all of this, Europe doesn't come around for a club of our size a lot, no matter what people think even if we didn't qualify there's no guarantees that we'd do better than (or even as well as) this year. We're never realistically gonna be one of the top clubs so we should jump at the chance of a European tour. I know a lot of people won't like this but other than winning a Cup (the reason I prefer cup runs to league position) this season is probably around as good as it will ever get for us, espescially in this era of FFP. There's 'bigger' clubs below us in the league as well who if they sort their ownership/management out will be catching up with us. In short, how can anyone not want a European tour?
