I'd say the Tories are inhibiting social climbing - and one of the big reasons for the unrest, anger and disillusionment around today is because people feel that if they are unemployed, there is little chance of getting a job, if you are poor there is only a very slim chance of you ever being able to become middle class (what with wage freezes, reduced worker protection, increasing house prices, inhibitive lending/mortgage rates, and hugely increasing cost of living). With the working and middle class there's a feeling that it is ridiculously hard to get onto and move up the property ladder. So no matter how hard you work then you feel there is no opportunity to progress. This is then combined with stories about degree educated, illiterate, illegal immigrants claiming tonnes of benefits and stealing your jobs, while benefit scroungers steal the bread out of your mouth and Scotland single handedly destroys the country you love. Which creates misdirected hate and mistrust. But yes I think the Tories would love a Hunger Games style system of government, where the Oiks can be pitted against each other to win food for the Upper Classes amusement! ;p
It's a shame to see the violence involved with the anti-Tory / anti-austerity protests. Injuring police officers who could well have voted against the Tories is just a display of poor behaviour. Everyone has a right to protest, but try to act like civilised human beings not yobs!
It is funny to see that although police are 'controlling' the protests by 'kettelling' and using batons that only the police got injured and no protestors got injured (apparently battoning members of the public dorsnt injure them). Also interesting that the police had to resort to such tactics when there was only 100 protestors...
The protesters were throwing stuff at the police including smoke bombs. They were trying to cause trouble regardless of how many of them there were. If it was just a peaceful protest the police wouldn't have had to control them. I often think the police step outside of the way we'd expect them to act but in this case police shouldn't be expected to take the abuse that is really anger aimed at the government. If people are going to be stupid enough to attack the police they should expect the police to react.
May be a little late to the party, but I heard that DC wants to scrap the Human Rights Act and replace it with a Bill of Rights. Hmmm....thoughts people?
I heard that. This is nothing new, they've wanted to do it for ages but can't until they renegotiate their membership of the EU or leave the EU. Which is why ukip has been backed so widely by the right wing press/politicians
A lot of people don't realise that the UK help set up the European Court of Human Rights, being members of the court has nothing to do with our membership of the EU.
Ahh I didn't realise that i thought that one of the terms of EU membership was signing up to the human rights act
I think it's been on the Daily Mail Agenda for quite some time. They'll claim that it's to deal with some of the ridiculous stuff that gets thrown up about a right to a family life, etc. It'll actually be a sneaky way to remove rights in the workplace, health and safety protections and similar things. They really couldn't give a flying **** about 90% of the population and make very little attempt to hide it.
The bastards have taken away enough worker's rights over the last 5 years.Their latest one will make it near enough illegal for unions to take industrial action.
When the riots start, the tories will be expecting the same people who they've been stitching up for the last 5 years to pull them out of the ****.
You do realise it is because of unions that we have weekends? That you get to have an extra day off of work? Unions defend your rights as a worker and try to prevent companies from doing slave labour to ensure you have sufficient income that you can spend on your family and on yourself. How about giving them a bit more respect?
Reading some of the comments on here from Magic Man and Old_Faithfull, i just find it truly bizarre that people have these kind of views. Literally. All they need to do is a little bit of research and they would see why they are wrong on the majority of topics that have been discussed.
