Good point. Bale, Rodriguez, Benzema etc (brilliant players), are always in Ronaldo's shadow.

Messi is the best player in the world without a doubt. His dribbling, balance, vision and finishing are incredible. Not only that, but he's a team player. He makes everyone he plays with better. Madrid could string together a 50 pass move with Ronaldo scoring a one inch tap in and he wouldn't give anyone else credit for the goal.

That's not strictly true. The media just wouldn't mention the 49 passes beforehand.

Although I agree Messi is number one player, I disagree with the above reasoning. For me, Ronaldo's behaviour on and off the pitch is not the reason he is number two. It is because Messi is a better player, that he is the best in the world. He is a better footballer. It's close, but he is better in my opinion.

The other things make Messi a better person, his footballing ability and execution make him the better player.

If Ronaldo wasn't a prat with his behaviour, I don't think it would make him the better player.

Messi is better, because he is better.

Did I miss something last night..? Just looked at the goals from Barcelona v Bayern and although they're good I can't say they are anything that deserves all the plaudits I've read everywhere [not here]. I do think some people get a little caught up in the occasion. Nobody mentions the appalling defending and the space the Barcelona players had. Oh well.

The defending was terrible for the third goal, but Bayern were going all out for an away goal at the time. I disagree that it was substandard for Messi's pair: the first was a typical Messi goal, cutting inside on to his left foot. Going laterally across the face of defence is very hard to stop if you're Messi, because he can turn either way as he showed for his second. For that, he completely bamboozled Jerome Boateng who was desperate to keep him from going on to his left foot, only to discover he is not too shabby with his right. The little dink over Neuer was a thing of beauty.

The 2nd goal was sensational. He left Boateng on his arse with a great bit of skill then dinked it coolly as you like over the best keeper in the world.

I think you didn't get what I was saying. I agreed with Tom that Messi was better, but then added another reason he is better then Ronaldo. Even if Messi and Ronaldo were the same skill etc wise on the pitch. Ronaldo would still be behind Messi due to his attitude.

Ok. To add to your last line, I'd also go the other way. Even if Messi had the same attitude as Ronaldo, he'd still be better.
