The â¬urozone is now in deep **** and with Italy looking set to be next on the bail-out list,Italy is latest cause for concern in the eurozone debt crisis as its debt to GDP ratio is 120%, some â¬1.8 trillion . Why not just scrap the ****ty single currency and all revert back to our own money. Oh how I miss our lovely money. please log in to view this image And before ye all start with the we're British it doesn't matter to us. The Eurozone is not the cause of the issue, it was the countries borrowing more than they could afford.
The current system of capitalism will all come crashing down, a change of currency will not prevent that.
Maybe not, but at least with your own currency you can set your own rates, deflate it etc. to be more competitive
If there's no Euro to defend, why would countries like France and Germany bail out Ireland next time it goes tits up?
The Euro is still in its infancy. There is going to be teething problems on a massive scale in a project this big. All this is wishfull thinking by those opposed to it.
Nah, no point worring about that. A big war will have to break (I want to name it out and years of fighting that living on rations will see some sort of state controlled capitalism will form where distrabution of wealth will be better controlled.
The UK has no Euro and it is pretty much tits up, although not to the same extend as Ireland I will admit
You say bail out as if these countries arn't actually making money from this scenario. They borrow from the markets at like 4% and lend at 5.5%. The only way they lose is if Ireland or Greece default, which is why they are determined to make sure they don't.
If ROI was not in the Euro there would not have been any tits to go up. I remember travelling down south before the Euro. Roads terrible, poverty a major issue and farmers struggling. Ireland have been one of the major beneficiaries of both the European Union and the Euro. People are very quick to forget what Ireland was like in the not too distant past.
I don't think Ireland will default but apparently a Greece default is inevitable. That's according to the experts anyway
He's right, they did build you some decent ****ing roads - and Seamus and Paddy used the money they were paid to build the roads to buy themselves some investment houses in Dublin...
Celtic Tiger is a term used to describe the economy of Ireland during a period of rapid economic growth, where it expanded at an average rate of 9.4% between 1995 and 2000. The Euro wasnt introduced til 2002 Edit: according to these figures the Euro slowed down our growth From 1995 to 2000 GDP rate growth ranged between 7.8 and 11.5%. The rate then slowed to between 4.4 to 6.5% from 2001 to 2007.
It is all wrapped up with the EU. Do you think Ireland would be able to leave the Euro and stay in the EU with all the benefits? Without Europe the 'Celtic Tiger' would not have happened. Along with all the scams that made millionaires out of small Farmers.
The feckin euro is quite strong at the moment. I pop across the border for diesel regularly and I used to save a tenner compared to in the North but today I saved feck all
