I as much as the rest of you love Reed, think he is a great talent and should have been used more up to today but he has to take his fair portion of the blame for the first. He didn't do a whole lot else either to be perfectly honest. As a youngster though I wouldn't be expecting him to control games like today so I'll cut him a bit of slack. Think you're a little harsh on Mane...he did get caught a few times and he looked like about the only player who might make a difference. The rest I'd agree with
I think we are in danger of over analysing the game. Leicester were fighting for their lives whilst some of our players were already on their summer holidays. If the fans think that Europa is already a given what chance does RK have in motivating the players. It just shows that mentally we are still some way off being a top 4 club.
Agree. Totally. Clyne particularly let the gloss go off his season recently. This was one of the worst games I've seen him play. Davis and pelle should have been subbed off much earlier.
Yep, like for most of the second half of the season Mane is the only attacking player who looked like creating anything. I also think Alderweireld was dragged far too easily for their second, he was marking mahrez fine and wandered off after the ball. Obviously a collective defensive **** up though.
Being the cynic I am, I'll stretch my neck out and say it could be a master stroke from SFC, hated watching but, got no choice right? Thing is Spuds and the Pick-pockets HAVE got Europa league football next year, Tee, hee, hee, we on the other hand, up until the FA cup have not. We could with luck and foresight, "hop, skip and jump" those two next season and seriously challenge for CL
Not sure our style of play now will be our style of play next season. Edit: misread your post and point.
The effort that Pelle put in today, Chico would be an improvement. Pelle has struggled against big strong defenders like Huth most of the season, so Ron should have started with Long today.
I had a hunch Davis would catch much more flak for the first goal but it was truly baffling from Reed, who is meant to be the defensive midfielder. I'd understand anyone not wanting to watch it back again, but if you do just watch what Reed does more closely, it is just pretty bizarre. He got completely done by Mahrez and had his momentum taking him the wrong way, and then didn't turn and sprint back at the ball but skips into a shuffling jog and just leaves it up to Davis until it's too late. Not only did he fail to make a tackle or hold Mahrez up at all, but if he'd done what he usually is so good at, flying at the ball like a little ginger rocket and getting goal side, there would have been no room to cut inside (at worst Reed fouls him) and thus no problem. Davis got done in pretty embarassing fashion and should have done better, but really shouldn't be getting squared up 1v1 on the edge of the box in the role he was playing and I just can't see how he can be blamed more than Reed, beyond people not seeing past general perceptions with Davis playing poorly recently and fast becoming the new scapegoat and Reed being a academy lad and thus unable to do wrong.
Leicester with 18 points from a possible 21. They were nailed on favourites in my eyes and I expected us to lose. Only Chelsea have managed to stop them recently. They are obviously unplayable at the moment . It happens sometimes. We dug a hole for ourselves too with the previous few results leading up to this game. Hopefully we can turn it around against Villa. We could do with a win before the end of the season.
Reed's reaction after he got beaten was piss poor. Davis got beaten and never stopped hussling Mahrez. I still think if you look at the goal developing Davis should have fouled Mahrez after he beat Reed. Maybe that's what Reed is expecting, but it's still very poor from Reed not to react quicker. Reed could have got back to foul Mahrez himself. It was a great goal though in fairness to Mahrez.
Well that was a nice afternoon out in Leicester. We weren't very good, but Leicester weren't either in truth however they did want it a lot more than us. I was baffled by Reed's challenge for the first goal. Him to blame for me. Second goal obviously started with Gazza's mis- hit clearance, but what were three experienced defenders doing chasing one man and leaving Mahrez (we've been looking at him by the way) stood on his own 8 yards out? Awful defending. Clyne looked like he wasn't really wanting to get hurt. Vic's passing wasn't as good as it has been. Not too sure what to say about Elia. Pelle didn't give the CBs any concerns. Davis was poor. Hats off to the Leicester fans who really knew how to get behind their team and made some noise. All in all its a bit flat really. Just shows how spoiled we've been this season.
I said at the end of the last game I felt leicester would win this game . they did . I am dissappointed but not surprised . we move on
That was Davis. Reed challenges for the header off the throw in. It gets headed slightly back and towards the middle of the pitch to Mahrez. Reed recovers and now tracks Mahrez who is dribbling sideways, not allowing him to turn towards goal. So Mahrez keeps dribbling. This steers Mahrez directly into Davis. That is where it gets strange. Reed could stop, thereby being a backup for Davis in case he gets beat. But he doesn't he turns up pitch to receive a pass should Davis win the ball, or alternatively to cover the guy that Davis has now left open. That was sort of stupid. I think Reed assumes Davis wins that ball. Because he should. It's mind boggling he doesn't. In fact I think Davis actually DOES win the ball. I think it hits him right in the ankles and Mahrez nicks it right off him while he fails to react. So then Davis gets beat so now Mahrez has the ball in behind Reed. Reed is confused but sort of comes back to help. If Mahrez keeps dribbling in the same direction, then Reed can get back into position maybe. Except he doesn't. He cuts back, directly into Davis, who rather than hold his position foolish stabs at it and is thus easily beaten. Again. So Reed is guilty of drifting about a bit, trying to cover...something, not really sure how to help or position...but winding up covering nothing. But it was Davis who was beaten twice, badly.
Who was it that pulled out of the first tackle with Mahrez? Initially I thought it was Davis, but someone at the game told me it was Reed.
