It's as much as I can do to stop mine from openly complaining all the way through that I am interrupting their programmes or that they want to watch a DVD. Philistines.

I can make my six year old get slightly excited about the start but he has usually lost interest by lap 2 because nothing has exploded and nobody has crashed. If one of the cars looked like it was made from Minecraft blocks and the driver had a square helmet we might get somewhere.

Grosjean should know better than to lend his keys to Maldonado,

Shame.. doesn't appear (so far) that Ferrari have closed the gap on one lap pace and more worryingly, Race pace wise, they're about .5 second a lap slower... balls! Was hoping for a decent race, here's hoping Rosberg has up'd his game otherwise, even though I do like him, could be another Hamilton cruise...

Hoping final 10mins of FP3 will change that...

Deeply unimpressed with the apparently huge updates from McLaren and Red Bull.

Did I read that Kimi wasn't running the updates on the Ferrari but Vettel was?

It was Kimi's side of the garage that chose not to use them. They were both running them in practice 1-2.

Seems an odd decision given how big the update was supposed to be. Maybe he didn't feel comfortable with the new parts but thats a hell of a time deficit.

Not a bad GP2 race there as well, Vandoorne really on it despite the DRS failures. Surely F1 is beckoning for him next season given how strong the grid actually is this year. The youth are piling up at the door, who will get through?

Nice bit of **** stirring from Sky. Apparently they were praising Kimi during practice for knowing which bits to take off the car, then in qualifying they said the fact he didn't have all the updates was proof he's a de facto number two.

The promising thing for Ferrari is that it seems the upgrades have improved the car. The problem is they're still over half a second behind Mercedes. Everything hinges on this engine upgrade they're supposed to be bringing to Canada, but I think it's going to be next year until they're really able to challenge. Two of their engine quota are the non-updated version, so even if they find some good performance they're going to have to keep using the older engine at certain events. They're just one step behind Mercedes all the way.

Good performance from Rosberg. His long runs looked better than Hamilton's yesterday, he needs to have a clean race tomorrow and get a win under his belt, I don't think he has any hope of challenging Hamilton for the title, but he needs a few wins to make it respectable.

Hats off to Toro Rosso. If one of them can make it to the finish they should finally score some decent points this year. Special mention to Bottas too, looks like he's getting back to his best after a sluggish start.

I don't call Brundle out much but that comment was so full of **** I bet even he didn't believe what he said.

Kimi and his side of the garage (choose) not to run the upgrades and that somehow 'somehow', makes Vettel already being treated as number one at Ferrari? Even though 2 days ago Kimi came out saying he has equal status more so than last year.

Sky are not just scraping the barrel, they have gone through the bucket and are just digging up **** all apart from their own imagination.

Good to see Rosberg on pole.. hopefully we'll see if Hamilton can over take now the boot is on the other foot.. me thinks not..
If the Ferrari's don't get ahead of him at the start, I have a feeling he'll drop back a couple of seconds keep his tyres fresh and then banzai the last couple of laps before he has to pit..

Was checking out the speed trap data for quali:

    upload_2015-5-9_19-4-41.png

and saw something pretty interesting crop up in the speed trap in sector two...

    upload_2015-5-9_19-5-45.png

What on earth happened in sector two for Hamilton to be that much faster through the trap.
Also it seems that Honda is now out dragging the Renault engine in the main speed trap <ok>

I'd guess the speed trap in sector 2 is at the end of the DRS zone, could be possible that it's just inside the braking zone for turn 10, the apex of which Hamilton missed by quite a distance. That's the only possible explanation I can think of. It might explain why Manor are so slow too.

Edit: Just looked at Rosberg's pole lap and he reached over 300km/h down that straight (308 I think it was), so the trap is either early on the straight or into the braking zone.

I think S2 ends before the braking point for corner 10 but I have no idea where that trap comes from. Just caught my eye, unless the trap is at the sector 2/3 boundary? Thats 85m before turn 10, maybe just into the braking zone?
