SUNDERLAND misfit Ricky Alvarez has been linked with a summer move to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

On-loan Inter Milan midfielder Alvarez remains on the sidelines with a complex knee injury after being ruled out of the relegation run-in.

Alvarez has not convinced during his injury-hit stint at the Stadium of Light, with the Argentine international making just five Premier League starts in red and white.

There have been suggestions that there is a compulsory £8million permanent deal in the loan if Sunderland stay up, although it is thought that there is an appearance get-out clause which could see the Black Cats allow the 27-year-old to return to Serie A.

But there have been reports in Italy that German side Leverkusen are keeping an eye on the Alvarez situation, with a view to a summer switch

Flashes of potential there but there's Deffo better for the alleged £8 mil fee. Having said that Dick plays a more attack minded team which may have suited his skills better.
Not bothered if he stays or goes but can we afford an eight mil squad player?

We've got squad players who cost more in the starting line up.

There's no such binding agreement in football, It's bollocks mate, it's just a pre arranged fee like all overseas loans we may take it up, it's very likely we won't. The the media are talking **** as per. This appearance thing is just a new excuse for them when we decide we don't want him for 8 million.

Yep, this 'appearance get out clause' is just a covering lie as they've realized they were wrong and don't want to look daft.

Whether there is a clause or not I've no idea but it could well be a lie.

To report that we were bound by contract to sign him if we stayed up though was ****ing idiotic though, annoyed me at the time as well as it's clearly nonsense.

There is a clause but it's much like Verginis where he has to make a number of appearances to make the move required... He hasn't... So they're right but they're basically trying to cover their tracks by printing this rubbish!!

What a waste of wages this bloke has been and I have to say the same for giacc' too. Surely our dallying with the Italian market is over.

No way will we or should we sign him. Not suited to england at all.

£8m would probably get us 2 better wingers from Spain or Germany.

We need a couple of wide men in the summer with it looking like Giaccherini Alvarez and possibly Johnson will all depart.

It says "a complex knee injury". How complex? We can't afford any more Marcos Angeleris. No disrespect to Angeleri, Giaccherini, or Alvarez - they all look very capable players to me, but some foreign imports only have to walk onto an EPL pitch and they're injured. Let's find out the lowdown on this knee, and make an appropriate decision. That report said he only made 5 starts in his Sunderland stint, but in fairness, Poyet did say he wasn't going to rush him, and held him back for some time. I think he looks like he can do something here, but we need to know the full story.

He might not even be the sort of player we want, if he was brought in to play Gus's style of football.

I just don't know enough about the lad. Tbh I'd forgotten all about him, but that could just be early onset dementia kicking in!

Yeah, Vince. I don't believe it. Can't find one similar case anywhere. It's just something the Daily Mail invented as far as I'm concerned.

I find it hard to believe we'd sign a contract like that.

There must be a "dependent on number of games played" clause or something like it as a get-out on our side of the contract.

I find it hard to believe there's any contract like in existence and that there are any buying clubs out there stupid enough to sign on. The appearance inclusion is the latest get out which wasn't mentioned before, the press have provided no proof what so ever that such a pre-contract exists. I don't believe it for a second.

It's a basic overseas loan agreement with the mandatory future fee IF the club want to buy the player imo. Funny, the fact the the Echo(our must trustworthy media source) was reporting that we were in negotiation over the future fee, saying we're still interested and but not at the 8m price shows there's never been any compulsory transfer in existence imo.
