Not having read the thread, can anyone let me know how much talk there was of unfair voting systems before the election? Vin
I don't agree with the idea that you are unrepresented if your MP represents a party that you didn't vote for. That assumes that every voter has views that totally match one party or another....you could vote for Party X because you feel strongly about a couple of issues....doesn't mean that you don't agree with another party on a different issue. I vote Conservative, but I don't agree with the bedroom tax...just as one example. And if you have a problem you have every right to write to your MP or attend a surgery without them asking who you voted for.
Fair enough, though please note that at no point have I stated any political views on here (I sincerely hope), apart from one satirical rant to point out the futility of political argument on the internet. All of my posts have been about the extremism and related pointlessness of most political argument. For all you know, I'm feeling pretty sore as well. I just think people need to get it all in proportion and move on. One thing that helps is to realise that the party you don't support is not actually full of demonic vampires supping from the whores of hell. Most people in politics go into it to improve people's lives, whatever direction they may happen to lean. Vin
I too haven't declared my view. The only points I have made is a criticism of the media, all politicians and those people on this thread who, in my opinion have expressed things in a poor manner. I could see things building up and simmering. Whoever had won the election, the same responses would have been posted in here, but from people on the other team. Someone would have been moaning about the way Milliband eats his food or how old he looks; Clegg would have been accused of being too wet and a Tory puppet, Farage a racist and so on. I voted, but because I am a normal bloke, family of 4, employees, not rich but not poor, I don't think that my life would be changed too much over the next 5 years, whoever was in power. I was fed up with the drama and reported disasters aimed at each party before the vote and I'm fed up with it now. The great national press disgusted me last night when I saw the paper headlines and the usual papers aiming mud at the usual suspects (both sides). For something that has so much power and control, politics can be a childish game at times.
I'd also like to add, that oddly, the people who regularly post on here, form a part of my life as I spent a lot of time reading and posting. It is important to me. Weirdly, that makes a lot of you my internet 'friends' and I could see that this election was building up some division between people I like in here (some of whom I have met). I didn't like that which was why I made some comments. It is not like having a row over a football game. Politics can really cause a true split or division. I don't want to see that happen here.
I don't get people that go crazy over politics. It's not like whoever gets in charge will do 100% right by everyone. It's not like like most politicians really give a **** about the normal every day person.
On that we can agree. Actually I've been very impressed with the fact that although quite a wide range of views are represented on this thread, at no point has anyone resorted to personal insults or outright attacks on any other poster. If that had happened, the Mod's would have had to intervene. I'll overlook your dig at people of faith just this once, but that's the sort of thing that wouldn't have been tolerated in the context of a political debate. And on the subject of moving on, let's have the rest of tonight tying up the loose ends of the election, and then yes, let's let Koeman's Korner get back to being the fun-filled thread we all know and love.
Murray just beat Raonic in straight sets to go into semis at Madrid....having won his first title on clay at Munich last week.
