    I think you'll find etymology of the term "Nazi" indicates otherwise.

    I think you'll find that National Socialism was not "Socialism" at all, in fact it bears no resemblance to "Socialism" and was merely a trick perpetrated by the Nazis to fool the gullibles into believing they were real Socialists, and some 70 years later it still fools some people apparently.

    <whistle>

    The term "National Socialism" arose out of attempts to create a nationalist redefinition of "socialism", as an alternative to both internationalist Marxist socialism and free market capitalism. The Nazis sought to achieve this by a "people's community" (Volksgemeinschaft) with the aim of uniting all Germans as national comrades, whilst excluding those deemed either to be community aliens or of a foreign race (Fremdvölkische). It rejected the Marxist concept of class struggle, opposed ideas of class equality and international solidarity, and sought to defend private property and businesses.

    So the National Socialists weren't socialists at all then? They have that in common with the Scottish Nationalists I suppose. That and the Nationalism thing, so maybe the Daily Mail was on to something; Nicola Sturgeon is worse than Hitler.

    And Clydebank. One of these days they're going to clear the rubble and rebuild it.

    Aye, that's the gist.

    Hitler's own words make it quite clear:

    "Yes, how often did they not turn up in huge numbers, those supporters of the Red Flag, all previously instructed to smash up everything once and for all and put an end to these meetings. More often than not everything hung on a mere thread, and only the chairman’s ruthless determination and the rough handling by our ushers baffled our adversaries’ intentions. And indeed they had every reason for being irritated.The fact that we had chosen red as the colour for our posters sufficed to attract them to our meetings. The ordinary bourgeoisie were very shocked to see that, we had also chosen the symbolic red of Bolshevism and they regarded this as something ambiguously significant.

    The suspicion was whispered in German Nationalist circles that we also were merely another variety of Marxism, perhaps even Marxists suitably disguised, or better still, Socialists. The actual difference between Socialism and Marxism still remains a mystery to these people up to this day. The charge of Marxism was conclusively proved when it was discovered that at our meetings we deliberately substituted the words ‘Fellow-countrymen and Women’ for ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ and addressed each other as ‘Party Comrade’. We used to roar with laughter at these silly faint-hearted bourgeoisie and their efforts to puzzle out our origin, our intentions and our aims.We chose red for our posters after particular and careful deliberation, our intention being to irritate the Left, so as to arouse their attention and tempt them to come to our meetings – if only in order to break them up – so that in this way we got a chance of talking to the people."

    I have "Socialist" principles but I've never voted Labour or any of the Leftish Parties in my life. I never thought I'd see the day I voted for SNP but there you go.

    I used to consider myself slightly Right of Attila the Hun.

    Just seventy years (which is **** all in the grand scheme of things) ago, yet millions of *****-spastic-******s have voted for UKIP. Most of them will have great grandparents, grandparents or parents who fought to get rid of an opportunistic, power-mad tyrant in charge of a cult of fascists.

    United = The Red Army of the Republik of Mancunia. Hugely popular from the paddy-fields of China to the slums of Salford. About as socialist as you can get - if you ignore the grasping Zionists in charge <whistle>

    I'm a bit like Cristiano Ronaldo. Sometimes I go to the left, sometimes to the right, sometimes down the middle.

    Unfortunately, that's where the similarities end :frown:

    Ah, okay. I just thought you leaned to the right. I'm similar to you in that I have a mix of right-wing and left-wing views.
