Didn't the country have a vote recently on PR that was comprehensively rejected?

You might not like it but first past the post is here to stay.

Spurious bit of information : Paul Weller's mum lives opposite me - just down the road from a house which is owned by Queen's Brian May which used to belong to Sir Patrick Moore :)

This could only be written by a fanatical left winger with no interest in reality but who wants to believe Socialist Worker drivel. Labour need to move to the left like Cameron needs Farage to run his EU campaign. :) Labour need to return to New Labour reality. Every time they lurch to the left -Kinnock, Foot, Brown they lose the British people who prefer middle of the road politics
Oh - and of course nothing that goes wrong is ever the fault of Labour itself

It will never happen - best chance was in the last Parliament. Tories and Labour of course oppose it as they like to rule on their own - they are not interested in compromise or fairness.

The British people did not want it, they overwhelmingly rejected it. You should respect the work of democracy.

Yes the PR referendum was interesting. Not much in the way of information for voters on what it was they were actually voting for and held when the tuition fee saga was still fresh in everyone's minds. I am not saying the result would have been different but cannot help thinking some voted with the intention of giving the lib dems a kicking.

Going to be quite cosy for the Tories now isn't it...

How long will it take for the others to get a new leader.

What went so badly wrong - the threat of Labour joining up with the SNP putting their voters off?

Lib Dems managed to lose 16% where I live (Harpenden) to drop from 2nd to 4th.

If Labour had won it is unlikely there would have been this call to change our tried and tested electoral system. The Tories had a massive majority over the second party. I think the result should be respected as the will of the people.

AV was clearly rejected last time so fortunately there will not be another vote for a generation.

It makes you wonder what is going on in the minds of so many people.

Incidentally NW Leeds where I voted LD got back in....

How can so many people turn against LD who were a moderate force In Parliament... ? .....and many of them must have voted Tory....

If there is anyone here who changed in that way it would be good to hear your rationale <ok>

Perhaps the electorate realised that the LD's were a drag on a moderate Tory party which was prevented from operating in a more effective manner. Fortunately that has been solved.

Or perhaps they realised that the LibDems would not side with the tories again so the only way of preventing another "about turn" and 5 years of blaming the previous bunch was to keep the existing bunch in power and let them finish what they started. If the Tories had been kicked out' the last 5 years pain would have been for nothing

how come you use personal abuse when superhorns gets told off for it - argue against what he said if you disagree rather than resort to abuse. Dan - do you operate two standards on here?

I voted Lib Dem. I worry that people may have gone Tory for the promise of a referendum and we'll be out of Europe.

But the glitch in that theory..... is that many people voted LD because they didn't want a Tory govt....??

If you look I edited my post 1 minute after posting it.

I am fed up with behaviour which I experience as superior or arrogant... mightily....

Fortunately my local Tory MP, Mike Penning didn't need my vote although I was ill in bed with a chest infection anyway.

Do you think there are witch doctors in Cologne?
