Cardiff home in Phil Brown's first game in charge, a 4-1 win. Then the last away game of the season, also against Cardiff, Deano scoring to keep us up. Who would have thought that a year later we would be going up to the Premier League?
A couple that stick out for me Colchester 1-3 Hull city 2007/2008 - This game was called off on the day as the team where travelling to the ground and ended up a long away day in the mid week near the end of the season, Vital 3 points that day Hull City 2-0 Burnley 2007/2008 - Another vital win in the promotion season featuring a beauty from Richard Garcia plus Mike Riley goes red card happy West Brom 1-2 Hull city 2007/2008 - Massive away win in the promotion season Four great games v Cardiff the 0-1 (2006/2007) and 0-4 (13/14) wins at Cardiff and the 4-1 (2006/2007) and 2-2 (12/13) at the KC a few other ones Yeovil away for promotion, Sheff Utd away in 12/13 on boxing day, arsenal and spurs away in 2008, Back to back weeneds as well made that even better, play off final, FA cup semi's and final, could argue 4-3 loss to Man Utd in 2008, 1-3 win at Barnsley in 2008 especially after the **** 3-0 loss there the season before. 6-0 v fulham, 6-1 v tranmere, 2-1 vs fulham in first premier league game. The 2-1 win at Newcastle in 2008 and the 3-2 win last season both fantastic results. I could go on but will stop now
The 4-3 at Old Trafford sticks in my mind for Ronaldo booting the ball out into the stands in the last minute. They were on the ropes at the end. Another game that sticks in my mind was a Stoke away, 1st season back in the prem. Game was probably 1-1 but my win memory was Boaz panicking in possession of the ball in his box and purposely kicking it out for a corner rather than a throw due to the Delap issue. Favourite ever City game was the 4-2 at Hillsbrough. Knew then that we were on a roll.
My most memorable games are all in the Championship.. says it all really. We'll never feel as on top of the world in the Prem as we did in 07/08
2-2 against Cardiff in 2013 and hanging around in the KC after the final whistle, waiting for the mighty (for the day) Leeds to beat Watford, guaranteeing us promotion.
nil nil down at Spurs was pretty memorable too, Bo's performance that day will prob remain the best performance i've ever seen from a City player for a long long time
3-1 win at Barnsley in 2008, my first away game, and what a game it was! I'll never forget how bonkers everyone went when Ashbee scored that bullet header and when Deano scored with his first touch to seal it! 2-1 win against Palace shortly after that, Ashbee's header in this game is the best headed goal I've ever seen from a City player. The play off game at home to Watford was amazing, probably my favourite game overall, we pissed it and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Our first premier league win against Fulham was fairytale stuff, another brilliant atmosphere, and it got even more fairytale with the wins at Newcastle, Arsenal and Spurs! I've blanked most of the 09/10 season out of my memory, but I'll always remember the win against Man City, we played some fabulous stuff that day. The wins against Millwall and Leeds (twice) from our last promotion season stand out, we played some lovely attacking football under Brucey back then. The win against Liverpool and the cup win against Sunderland were good. I would mention the 6-0 win against Fulham but I was feeling under the weather that day and decided not to go, assuming it would be a dull game. I felt vindicated at half time, but then the second half happened!
2-2 vs Cardiff as we came up again. I had the Sky people the row in front of me so watched the end of the Leeds vs Watford game on a little monitor, went mental when Leeds scored, then the rest of the stadium found out and followed suit.
I watched the full game of that again not long ago and Daniel Cousin was absolutely outstanding, I mean truly top, top class. He ran their defence ragged that day and it's easy to forget that sometimes, just occasionally, he was a brilliant player for us.
First ever Premier game 2-1 against Fulham . Geovanni equalising their opener and not to forget Folan with the winner . How many times have we come from 1-0 down and win since then . Most memorable comeback since was Arsenal away 1-2
Great mention of the Colchester away game in the play off final win season. Fraizer Campbell was absolutely unplayable that night and promotion seemed a genuine reality on the way home. Good times.
Hull City 4-1 Millwall. 2012 4 first half goals. Quinny and Koren was a match made in heaven. Some of the best football we've played.
I'm ashamed to say I completely forgot that game was re-arranged for that night. I only knew about it when I saw the result on SSN the next morning. That was a nice surprise.
Quinniesta was robbed of the Player of the Year in the promotion season, deserved it much more than Elmo.
Beating Man City 2-1 at home in 09/10 was special, Boateng scoring a cracker. Cairney jumping onto the scene. Norwich 1-0 last season, playing over an hour with 10 men. Leeds in 05/06 parkins header and double in 12/13.
Wouldn't call that great. We were dire back then. We were lucky Bo was in decent form. We had one shot all match, if i remember correct. We were ****e that season.
The premier league era has brought up some top drawer games Fulham 2-1 - Obvious reasons Everton 2-2 - Despite drawing I remember absolutely playing them off the park first half only for them to peg us back Arsenal 2-1 - unexpected WBA 3-0 - being 3rd for a week was just great and it was our best away performance all that season arguably other than Arsenal Handful from our first season amongst many others West Ham 3-3 - Thinking back, end to end football, Bullard on form (switching the ball like nobody's business) Red card, comebacks and everything Stoke 2-1 - Great last minute goal by JVofH Everton 3-2 - played them off the park again first half, being nervous second half Here's what I can remember off the top of my head championship wise Leeds 2-0 - under Steve Bruce, the first time many of us thought we were genuine promotion contenders Cardiff 1-0 - Deano kept us up Southend 4-0 - Windass just rolled back the years and looked about 10 years younger Forest 1-0 - Remember taking 4,000 fans it rocking all game, Fryatt scores and takes away their home record Palace 2-1 - Ashbee had the ultimate midfield performance with a great header to boot There are many more but these are the ones that just jump out at me instantly. Amazing how different games have different meanings but have almost an equal amount of importance
