Exactly. Because it's always been the rich and powerful who have been in charge and made the decisions to suit themselves.
There has never been anything like a society built around fairness and equal opportunity (and probably never will be) no matter how often politicians bandy those words about.
Is the concept of social evolution beyond you? If you keep holding up the politics of the dark ages as normal and acceptable, then in the dark ages we'll remain.
The law of the jungle has applied throughout history, but if we ever want to free ourselves from it we have to look for better alternatives. If however, you take the "I'm alright, Jack so everything's good" attitude then things never will improve.

Apart from the obvious headlines (Tories getting an unexpected majority, SNP avalanche, Libdem demolition, bigwigs losing their seats), the striking feature for me is :

UKIP: 3m+ votes - 1 seat

SNP: 3m+ votes - 56 seats


I dislike UKIP, their members and their policies but my point is that the system is inherently unfair. How can the parties sitting the same election and the same parliament be so differently represented? Is it not time to look at our first past the post system?

 

Don't insult the town of your birth, Burnley has been royally shat on by Tory policies.

Wrong. Labour has destroyed Burnley. Disappointingly they won the Burnley seat though. Pendle to the tories though. Good news for them.

 

Good luck changing mans fundamental biology. We are programmed to look after our families first and foremost. It's selfish really when you think about it, but then survival is about being selfish.

Well I think one of the things the tory's are trying to do is reduce the number of seats to 600 from 650, to create a more "fair" representation. As for a look at our system, there was a referendum on AV a few years back - didn't go so well :/

 

The SNP stat means nothing, most of Scotland is rural and has very few electors compared to the large cities, most of the Tory vote comes from rural areas of England.

Its all about proportional representation (or the lack of it)

Also UKIP got 4 million votes to SNPs 1.5 million, that's quite incredible really
