Tristram Hunt, touted as a future Labour leader, just described a defeated Labour candidate as 'someone who worked in the financial services industry - a wealth creator'.

    What a ****.

Seems like it's just me now, whistling in the dark.....

    I'll sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
    Secrets I can't keep
    Inside of the day
    Swing from high to deep
    Extremes of sweet and sour
    Hope that God exists
    I hope I pray

    Bit strong that.
I think one of the problems for those on the left is that they allow their pure hatred of anything Conservative to cloud their judgement at times.

The English are speaking loudly. The Scots are speaking loudly. Westminster Parliament will look interesting with an opposition comprised of two elements that despise each other. Suspect the Scots Nats will try to force through policies of self interest. Labour will try to rally under a new leader, and may have an offer of support from Cleggy-no-mates - cold comfort. Cameron will be dependant on his backbenchers staying in line if he gets a majority.

Bit of a hollow victory for SNP. Fantatsic result, but IF the Tories get a majority, the SNP will have no power to control Westminster. Had the Tories underperformed as was expected, the SNP would have had a much louder voice.

The most compelling thing in the immediate future is how the Conservatives and the SNP relate. Sturgeon was still bleating about locking the Tories out late last night, but they clearly can't do that. The way forward has to be the agreement on further devolved powers and what that actually means towards Scotland's wish to be far more self-governing. If the result (which David Cameron must be working towards) is a Scotland that remains within the Union, as the recent referendum indicated, but with a further separation of Scottish-only and English-only legislation as desired by both the SNP and the Tories, then I think that's the ideal outcome. If the SNP effectively march into Westminster and throw their weight around and commit to cause chaos for the Government, then we're all in for a rocky ride.
