Lib Dems received less votes than any other party in both Sunderland and Sunderland South.

 

Nick Clegg is not going to enjoy the next 12 hours or so. They are getting destroyed.

 

I don't think the next 12 days, weeks or months will be particular good for him after tonight either!

 

Nick Clegg killed the Liberal Democrats when he snuck in with the Tories. They aren't traditional allies and even Liberals find it hard to forgive them for it.

Amen. I consider myself to probably be most aligned with the LDs, but I did not vote for their MP candidate in Southend, for numerous reasons.

I did, however, vote for two Liberal Democrats in the Southend council elections. We shall see...

 

Lib Dems also pissed off a lot of students.

 

A lot of students who are focusing on only one policy. Understandable, perhaps.

But while the payments did go up, the repayment rate and agreement on non-payment was improved for students.

 

Galloway looks like losing his seat.

I am thoroughly depressed and I'm going to bed. As they have just said, David Cameron will be the last Prime Minister of the UK as it currently exists, and the SNP, although they will win practically all the seats in Scotland, will not be represented in the government. Sometimes democracy is completely inadequate.

 

Yep. Not sure I've ever felt quite so disillusioned with British politics.

Scotland is trying to pull away, but being held by the fact the SNP will not be represented in government despite having all but one seat in Scotland.

UKIP now the third party on voting numbers alone.

Lib Dems getting caned for the coalition, as the Tories assume an even more powerful position in Westminster.

Like you say, sometimes democracy is inadequate. Change the bloody voting system, already.
