The exit poll is in and is as follows!

    Conservative: 316
    Labour:239
    SNP: 58
    Lib Dem: 10
    UKIP: 2

Which leaves the result in no doubt at all. The next prime minister will be......

Shouldn't that add up to 650?

I was about to say "minority tory government" but there's only 625 seats there?

Oh you've presumably not put it Clwyd Cymru, Green, independents, etc. Of course.

It doesn't include the Greens, Welsh, Irish, independents or speaker.

People always quote 325+ as the reuired amount but as NI don't take their seats it is less than that really. 316 would be a minority gvt in name but would be enough in practice for most laws, they'd have to have a really tight hold of backbenchers though!

I am predicting that the exit poll is wrong and that it will be nearer...

    Conservatives 285
    Labour 255
    SNP 58
    Lib Dems 22
    Greens 2
    UKIP 1

    Others 26

let's see if I can give David Dimbleby a run for his money!

It is only Sinn fein who don't take their seats - usually 3 or 4 of them. But the DUP usually vote with the tories and there are usually 7 or 8 of them and the effective majority is 323 without Sinn Fein.

It is based loosely on the http://www.electionforecast.co.uk/ prediction which takes into account local factors and doesn't apply a standard swing across the country.

There's something suspicions about The Tories.
    I suspect they are wolves.

Good to see Sunderland set to win the first count.
They do cheat with those extra digits though.

I can never hear anyone mention You Gov without thinking hearing John Humphries bleating on about their latest poll and what it tells us. Subsequently discovering that he owned copious amounts of shares in the company from pretty much day 1 and yet the "we don't allow adverts" BBC allowed him to plug them every time he opened his mouth does nothing to inspire confidence in the impartiality of the BBC

It's just told me the following.

    Tories Scum 278
    Labour 267
    Jocks 53
    Lib Dem 27
    DUP 8
    Welsh lot 4
    SDLP 3
    Racists 1
    Get the bus 1
    The Rest 8

Much better way of describing it as well.

yeah, I adjusted my guess to take account of the exit poll. Then again - I'm just about bottom of the prediction league so it shows what I am like at predicting results!

Whilst I am expecting a win, I would like to wait until all votes have been counted before claiming victory.

Rest assured, however, that I have the Nation at heart and will reflect that in deciding how much my salary will be.

2-0 to Labour at the minute.

Mark Lawrenson always says that 2-0 is a dangerous lead to have. never understood it myself but if true it means that Cameron will still be PM. Sorry Trev!

You forget that Cameron isn't counting the votes. And when did the number of votes ever have any effect on whether I won or not?

Sad state of affairs if having the most votes decided who was the winner !!!

By the looks of it I think tonight could be one of the few times I would prefer your method of counting votes!
