Today in 1988 SAFC,signed of on their one and only trip down into the darkness of hell known as the 3rd division with a 4-1 away win at Rotherham.

Where they rubbed shoulders with the likes of the giants such as, Grimsby, Chesterield, Chester, Aldershot etc.

In fact the last home game of the season against Northampton Town which was a 3-1 win attracted just a touch under 30k fans..(incredible)

Anyone go to see many of these games, that season, any memories?

One of my favourite ever seasons Comm, the rebuilding under the brilliant Denis Smith & Viv Busby.

Took my 11 year old son (Teessidemackem) to his first ever game that season against Walsall. David Kelly opened the scoring for them and Gary Bennet equalised for us in a 1-1 draw. We were sat under the clock in the Clockstand.

Cant forget the details of my lads first match..<ok>

Mark Goodwin...scored for them mate, (whoever he is) you and your lad were 2 of over 18k there that day.on a nice balmy 80degree Feb,<whistle>

Just looking at some of the results from that season. York city, 4-2 win for the lads at Roker, yet a 2-1 defeat at York.

seems the biggest win that season was a 7-0 against Southend, Eric Gates getting 4 of them..

See what alcohol does to the memory <laugh>

I was sure it was Kelly, one thing I do remember though was he played a blinder for them. I remember the 4-2 home win against Blackpool, they were 2-1 up at one point and had two big black lads as strikers who were well respected at the time, there names escape me but I'm sure one was called Cunningham. Remember Tony Normans debut that season as well, a breath of fresh air he was, cracking keeper.

    And of course Marco Goalo..<ok>

    You're a gent mate!

And as for my D.o.B.. Haha! I'd have never made it out of the late 80s/early 90s mate Madchester and Britpop would have swallowed me whole.
