Imagine how many they would have scored if they didn't only pass the ball sideways...

    thing is

barcelona and real madrid have just ridiculous amounts of money..

barca transfer embargo, dont make me laugh

look at Milan, struggling to finish top 10 of serie A, that's football now..

no one will match these two for awhile, people say the prem has money.. yes it does, but a stoke or a swansea vs eibar and almeria.. you can't match the two powerhouses of spain can you

    it's a joke

Milan are the true team.. makes me sick

If Ribery and Robben are back from injury it could be quite an intersting match in the 2nd leg but last night Alonso different team same fouling player how that guy doesn't get sent off more often I dont know.

That was always a myth. They always played three out and out forwards, with fullbacks who played like wingers and centre backs more like holding midfielders. They were great to watch for their sheer attackingness.

People confuse keeping it on the floor with always passing sideways, which became a cool thing to criticise, but it was always bollocks.

When teams do it poorly, like we have at times, then it's boring, but when you've got the amount of quality players in and around the box that that Barca team had, it really isn't.

Yes they always had attacking formations but when those players made a choice between definitely keeping the ball or risking possession to possibly create a chance they would always play a simple pass. It meant that most of the game would be played on the edge of the opponents box, but without much penetration (insert joke here). Now they play more direct football and take more risks with the ball, as seen by the fact that they only had 47% possession last night.

Rather ironically, they play quite a bit like the Germany national team. Who for me play the best football in the World (and not because they've won the WC).

Exactly, they've gone from playing like Spain to playing like Germany

totally agreed. The barcelona under guadiola and the spain that followed it played incredibly boring football. Yes it was incredible technically but it was very boring, . .Keeping the ball with no ambition to attack unless they could drag the opposition out (+ a bit of messi magic) isn't for me and matches just ended up with Barcelona/Spain passing it around from side to side between the midfielders and defence and sneaking the odd goal. Guardiola has taken what made that Bayern team great under Heynckes and made them just as boring.

This new Barcelona side is more akin to the Bayern Heyckes side and that to me is the most attractive football.

Agreed. In saying that, Neymar should have walked as well. The Italian ref. bottled it.

The 2nd leg should be very open as Pep will want to go out having a go. Nowt to lose.

I must admit last night was surprising in the way both teams played their way out of their own penalty when under attack from opponents instead of just hoofing the ball upfield. With apposing players bearing down on you to pass back to the goalie in the 6 yard box is quite impressive. For most of the match I though Bayern contained Barca without resorting to Italian tactics of niggly or underhand fouls to disrupt the flow of play but then Messi got to work.

    Bayern 1-2 Barcelona

They could score 6 or 7 tonight.

As you say, not even close. Joe Davis is the best ever.

Back to the game: it's ace to watch two teams who are brilliant going forward and crap at defending.

    3-2 Bayern.

Too little, too late, but they've been decent goals.

Nice to see Bayern give it a go in the 2nd half, pity City didn't emulate this last Saturday.
