Unlike you I have been here enough times to see young players rubbished only to come through with time. Lucas Hendo among others and it will not stop. We signed him for 5 yrs and not 1 season
Are you basing that on blind faith and hope or have you seen something in the lad this season that appears to have escaped the rest of us?
I still think Markovic will come good. He's got all the right attributes but mentally he's not quite there yet. If i had to put him at his stage of development he's probably at around Barkleys level. Both not producing but both with the potential to be great
TBF, Markovic had a good spell mid-season when we first switched to three at the back. He was playing a unfamiliar LWB role at the time. Didn't last long though.
Would you be happy if we signed Markovich now for £20m? had he had this season but at Spurs. Marovich may show some skill and consistency down the line, but that's a hell of a punt we took. My issue is more with our god awful transfer policy rather than with the player. It speaks volumes that Chelsea opted to waive their £13m first refusal on him. I'm sure you'll also be happy when we grab great potential talent when we sign ings and delph for a combined £45m+ too
he did ok moved to right side too but yes faded/ injured. Not a great year for a 20mil investment. did show sporadic glimpses of what he might be capable of in fairness but glimpses at that price are not enough. Next season we have to expect much more or the door for markovic.
No doubt about it, you guys got fleeced for markovic. If he comes good you can say otherwise but at the current moment of time he's a massive flop
Tracking back, work rate speed and when he played well his combination play was good in bits and pieces. It is unfortunate that he is being judged in a team that has underperformed. I am will to bump this argument come next season.
funnily enough most players coming out of portugal are way too expensive and don't do all hat well.... porto have fleeced city last year!
It's the best situation in which to judge the true character and ability of a player. Like Sterling's collapse since last season, where he was banging them in thanks to Suarez teeing almost every goal up for him
Yea proper hit and miss. Nani Flop, Ferrerra at his price flop, Carvalho Hit, Ronaldo Hit, Quaresma flop, Deco hit, Nani flop, Anderson flop, Markovic so far flop, Falcao Hit (flop in PL), Fernando Flop, Mangala Flop.
We are discussing 20 yr old players not 25 and above. I am more critical of mature players and less of younger ones. I dont know what you expect of these young players but history suggests they will be more erratic than consistent at the start. At no time did Markovic complain about playing wingback. He just got about it and tried his best.
He's quick, but he just runs down blind alleys for me. You might be right and he might blossom into a quality player, but I'm thinking more Ehterington than Ronaldo.
certainly no ronaldo. thus far he's hit some nice one off shots after a very weak start this year and has shown a couple of pacey runs but nothing really with ball which is worrying. Probably pennent is more fair.
There must be something about the air in Manchester. The number of expensive Portuguese based flops is outstanding
too many take hols over there and get sucked in to the algarve lifestyle i expect. I think its amazing how few actually did work out given consistently high spends.
