The trouble is Pie, what is a matter that only effects England. An example would be the NHS in the UK. If English only MPs could vote on a bill to spend an extra £200 Billion on the NHS in England for instance, the knock on effect of that would be reductions elsewhere to balance the books and would have an effect on all parts of the UK, hence Scottish MPs feeling that they should be part of the decision making process in the UK, even in matters that could appear to not directly affect them. Personally, I'd like to see full devolution for England too, just to see what it would be like. It might be disastrous, but I've spent my whole life being told how great the union is, without having anything to compare it with. Sometimes a change is needed for the sake of change
It's fairly simple. Powers that have been devolved to the regional parliaments still have to sorted in Westminster regarding England. Why should they get a vote on something that their own parliament has responsibility for in their constituencies?
There's an awful lot of extra dross in my brain now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Degrees_of_Kevin_Bacon
Although I was very much into my Prog Rock back in the late 60s and into the 70's I still liked the occasional pop record. This band always seemed to come up with something particularly catchy. I think I bought this as a rare single, probably due to hearing it on the Dell tannoy, rather than the radio. Lead singer and songwriter of Hot Chocolate, Errol Brown died yesterday aged 71. He was all right.
Its not fairly simple. Just because there has been partial devolution, and Scotland/Wales/NI have a certain amount of control over their own finances and legislation, it doesn't change the fact that because there isn't an English Parliament, English decisions by cannot be taken in isolation. The Scots, Irish and Welsh, being much smaller partners in the Union, have very little effect on the English economy regardless of how they spend their money, whereas England, could have a massive effect on them so I completely understand the devolved countries wanting separation but insisting on having a say in overall government. As long as we in England only have a UK government, and the rest of the Union have separate parliaments, this will never be resolved.
They have their own issues in isolation. Why can't we have ours? Stop Mps from other regions voting on issues that are under the control of their regional assemblies. Bazinga, De facto English parliament. voted for by English voters and dealing with English issues. They can't have everything their own way. Enngland should have a massive effect on them. We comprise the vast majority of the population and GDP, after all.
I absolutely agree Pie, however I think that we need the constitutional tool (definition of a politician) of a formal English Parliament not a defacto one made up of those MPs only representing English constituents, and until that is the case, we will forever be comparing apples with oranges when comparing our position in the Union with that of Scotland
Well I liked it. A cracking number which represents Hot Chocolate's contribution to British music very well: a nice combination of disco funk and British R&B (that's Rhythm and Blues, not what goes under that acronym nowadays). HC were always a cut above your bubblegum pop band, which gave them an appeal to prog rockers like us TSS. RIP Errol Brown
A mistake by the garage for not specifying a limit or just pure greed? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...stomer-spends-700-in-restaurant-10229714.html
I hate newspapers. This isn't reporting news, all of that crap is their own made-up agendas. Can't wait for the day newspapers as a medium die out, hopefully not too far away now. Absolute crap.
