I know we have debated this before, but after last nights showing is Messi the greatest player ever to have graced a football pitch. His 2nd goal last night was just stunning leaving a great defender on his arse.
He is certainly the greatest in my generation, but better than Pele ?

only thing that hovers doubt is the elusive world cup win. People in Argentina still consider Maradona greater because of his world cup greatness.

I still lean towards Ronaldo when it comes to the best player in the world.
Hes been world class for Man U, Madrid and he is single handedly qualified Portugal for the world cup on his own, and every other tournament.
3 teams with 3 different systems and formations and hes been on another level with them all, scoring every single type of goal possible.(Head, inside and outside the box, freekicks).
Messi's only ever played for Barca at club level, and they're tailor made for him the way they set up with short quick passing, and killer through balls for him. Most of his goals are inside the box.
He rarely performs to the same standards when he plays for Argentina who play a different system.
I'd like to see Messi move to another club and play to the same standards before I change my mind.

Barcelona have quite a good front 3 do they not..One of their strengths is they are not selfish like Ronaldo who does not often set up goals for others. In fact he looks like he is going to have a toddlers tantrum if another team mate scores.

Aye this past season he's began to act abit like a spoilt brat. Says nowt about who's better than him and Messi though.
This debate could go on for hours, their both world class. If I could have one of the 2 sign for Sunderland I'd have Ronaldo all day long. Hes the complete player, with no weaknesses whatsoever.

He is good, but in my opinion is still 2nd behind Ronaldo as the current world's best player..

He has only done it in a club (not just a team) built around him.

No, The best will test themselves in multiple leagues. No one club player will be the best at anything.

I agree with them too. Maradona was outstanding at all levels whereas Messi has been pretty much a flop for Argentina. The last good World Cup series he had was as the 'new kid on the block' in 2006. I've never seen a better player than Diego Maradona. In any part of the pitch, when he received the ball, he spelt danger for the opposition.
