According to the Kent Messenger, we have met Dovers asking price for Adam Birchall, and with us being his favoured destination, it looks like he might be in a Gillingham shirt before long. I know nothing has been confirmed yet, but once again this summer, I think we have got to thank Scally for his willingness to dig in his pocket to help achieve our aim of promotion this season! Lets hope it all goes through, as you cant deny 45 goals in 49 games is impressive at any level, and if he can step up, he could be the ideal partner for Kedwell!

Ok - before any arguments <laugh>

CanterburyGill according to site timings got there first <ok>

Before me (brb) and Thom_the_Gill, hence three merged threads.

Seriously if this goes through we HAVE to be favorites or the title! I may be getting ahead of myself but I'm looking at League 1 play-off's at the end of the 2012-2013 season!

He's a Kent lad, so hopefully he will want to stay so.

I will be so hacked off now, if he don't sign, after Hessy's and Scally's efforts.
Come on Birchall put that pen to Gills paper please <ok>

Think he may choose us over them even if he wasn't a Kent lad! If you look at it on paper you can see the ambition at Gillingham with a host of new signing's and the chance to play 40+ games a season. Where at 'the team that shall not be named' they have recentley been relegated, lost some of their best players, signed a few bad average players and have a manager who has only got the job because of his name.

    Who would you choose?

would say we were front runners as long as we offer a decent contract. as i've said before would be very happy with the signing but i wouldnt cry over him if he doesnt depending on who we bring in instead. the puzzle is being put together and i have to say its looking very good. certainly a promotion chasing side and hopefully and stable one going up into league one with hopefully a few additions. atleast if he does sign for us he wont be able to knock us out of the fa cup this time

Unbelievable, where's this sudden influx of money come from for signings!? I'm not complaining but i'm a bit mystified. Will be great if he signs but the lure of Di Canio may take him to Swindon.. I reckon we'll know soon enough.

I've been trying to work out the financing too. Eight players released at the end of last season and a further four turned down new contracts. By my calculation that's 12 players leaving to be replaced by only 7 so far (8 with Birchall). A bit of research showed the average league two salary in 2006 was about £49,000. Therefore based on salary savings alone about £200K can be added to the budget this year. This might all be a bit simplistic but I bet the combined price of Lee, Whelpdale, Kedwell and Birchall would be considerably more than that.

This is fantastic news if he signs.
I reckon if Gills can hit the ground running the upsurge in gate receipts will repay Scallys faith.
PS put yer house on us winning the league:grin:

If you read the article on BBC its pretty much a done deal he will sign for us, read it on the league 2 page. He told Dover he wants to play for us :)

slow down!!!...i think your all just getting a little bit ahead of yourselfs!!

i want him to sign for us as much as the next fan, yes birchall has expressed a desire to talk with us which does say alot in it's self!

only thing that worry's me though is wimbledon have given him a medical...which you don't just agree to for no reason, on top of the fact he has been very impressed with them on a whole!

also the swine have money behind them...which talks in it's own way for a player!

don't think this is as plain sailing as we thought, he's played under hessy and lives local...but is that enough to seal a deal for gillingham fc...time will tell?, along with the fact...how gillingham sell the club to adam birchall!!!
