As a Celtic fan I believe I can weigh in on this! Efe is very hot and cold, he is strong, fairly quick and appears to be decent with the ball at feet, however, he will have a brainfart and essentially give away a goal. Denyer is probably a better defender, very solid. Also to add my own opinion, Wigan have two good goalkeepers in Carson and Al Habsi, maybe we should be looking at one of them?

Well I was desperate for us to get Flanagan on loan from Liverpool at tight back but that's gone as he is out for another 6-9 months

Defensive midfield is a major position needed and it has reported that Micheal Essian is being released this sumner at 32 he's younger than I thought. Also Sulley Muntari who is only 30

The right type of player Cookie but the wage demands would be far too high for us.

Having said that I just checked Essien's wages. He's on 35k per week. I wonder could we stretch? He'd probably have much higher profile clubs after him.

Muntari is on approx 21k, Hull are reported to be interested.

What did we say Hugo was on?

Reports in Turkey say Fenerbahce want to do a swap deal involving Emmanuel Emenike for Kostas Mitroglou. He's a pacey powerful striker, something that we badly need. He has been caught up in a bit of controversy recently though. In 2011 he was accused of being involved in match fixing but was never charged. A few weeks ago he ran off the pitch and refused to play after getting abused by his own fans.

A good player, much better than Championship level. We'd be doing well here.

Probably not but I haven't really looked into the details of the above incidents so I don't know how much was down to attitude problems. He wears his heart on his sleeve which can be a good thing so he might be worth a gamble.

To be honest pace and power is exactly what is needed in the championship plus Turkish fans are absolutely fanatical if he was getting abuse about a poor game it would have been 100 fold than what he would get at the cottage!!! I can't see it happening but would be delighted with this deal

As noted in the "Loan" thread Mitroglou is still banging in the goals for Olympiakos which makes a bit of a nonsense of the £7m they are allegedly prepared to pay for him. Emenike, valued at £11.4, is therefore a better deal .... on paper.

Apart from the question marks over his 'problems', guess the doubts are about his potential wages (FFP and all that) and whether we could make better use of cash in the hand. And of course, whether he'd be prepared to step down a grade (or two) prestige wise.

West Brom have released Youssuf Mulumbu, Chris Baird and Jason Davidson. I think I'd be happy to see all three come in, certainly Mulumbu. He's the enforcer we've been crying out for. We all know what Baird can bring and we were apparently close to signing Davidson last summer.

Mulumbu is exactly what we need a defensive midfielder who can protect the defensive a bit, he has played in the premiership and championship regularly and is 28 years old.
Baird I love and was part of my favorite Fulham era but at his age I think we need to look else where.
Davidson is an interesting one, we do need a left back, he's young and had a very good World Cup, apparently know for his pace which we need, but he has never played in England, turned us down last summer and obviously. Hasnt impressed at West Brom, I would rather try to keep Husband personally.

Bairdinho would be a great signing. At 33 he's still got a couple of good years in him, and he would make a great centre back partner to either Burn or Hutchinson. Also, if Hoogland is off he would be a perfect candidate for a holding midfielder in a 3-5-2 formation - able to slip back into the centre of defence when one of the outer defenders is forced wide to act as a full back. He wouldn't be the exciting, glamour signing that some people are looking for, but he'd add to the squad, he'd bring the right sort of character into the team as well as adding some seasoned pro experience to our various precocious youngsters. I was thinking about him as an option before I even knew West Brom were releasing him.
