What on earth is Wenger playing at? A few months ago, Wenger confirmed that 'we won't allow a repeat of Flamini situation' with Nasri. This means he meant we would either sell Nasri or get him to sign a new contract. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/-we-won-t-allow-repeat-of-flamini-situation- Today he has come out and said that he thinks Nasri will stay but he's not sure if Nasri will sign a contract extension. Imo this is nothing short of a joke. We can't risk letting him go on a free next season so we have to either make him sign an extension or sell him before the transfer window closes. Plus, if we let him run down his contract, he will choose what club he wants to join. If we sell him now we can have a big say in which club he chooses to join.
He wont rot in the reserves and in January he'll be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any team he chooses
be interesting to see how many clubs want a player who hasn't played competitive football for a whole year tho. i think Wenger is banking on Man Utd buying Sneijder or Modric if they can't get Nasri and thus not wanting him next year. Couple that with a strong showing from Arsenal next year and he might sign a new contract. Or he'll go to Chelsea to replace Lampard.
If we decide to sell Nasri this year it doesn't mean that the team who offers the most money will get him
I know it seems impractical, but respect to Spurs or any other club who lets a player rot on the bench for a season after signing a long contract and then wanting to leave 6 months later.
I've said all along that Nasri is going nowhere and I still stick to that. Wenger has offered him a new and improved contract, so that's about all he can do. It's up to Nasri to sign. I believe Wenger when he says that Nasri is 'committed to the club' - if he wasn't then it would make Wenger look pretty silly to come out and say that only to have a player who clearly didn't want to be there. It's looking likely that Fabregas will stay too and with two new signings already - I think Wenger should be applauded for keeping the heart of this team together whilst adding to it also
