John-Joe O'Toole has been transfer listed by Northampton. For some reason this news doesn't surprise me.
I don't know why everyone has a go at JJ. After all, it was his goals which kept us in the.........................oh, hang on!
His goals helped us massively. But if he was able to give more effort then he could have assisted others to get crucial goals or even scored 3 more himself, remember we just needed 3 more goals throughout the whole season then we would have stayed up. Or more effort defending and supporting his team mates then we may have conceded 3 less goals which would have kept us up. He was good at being in the right place and right time but his work rate was very poor on and off the ball. he was good for a few games when on loan but then he went down hill. we took a while trying to sign him and he only signed in the end as no one wanted him and he made it clear throughout the season that he wanted a higher league with better standard of players as his team mates. to say that about his team mates was a mad move. no wonder the team moral was so low.
His first few games were great and he was man of the match for quite a few of them. If he had been that good he would have been our inspirational captain. He's lacking something, although he seems a confident chap - probably over confident.
CJS you say we needed 3 more goals, if I remember rightly we lost our last 5 or 6 games by a single goal, therefore 1 more goal would equalled 1 more point and safety
im saying just 3 goals throughout the whole season. so instead of winning 1-0, win 2-0. instead of losing 2-0, lose 2-1. throughout all season like how goal difference works... not just last few games but you are right though, 1 goal would have been enough if it meant a defeat turned into a draw. or a draw turned into a win but if all outcomes were the same, we still lost the same and drew the same and won the same, just add 3 goals in these games would have been enough. he could have easily contributed more in games to have done this. infact all the players could.
At the home Torquay game last season when Lee Mansell ruled the midfield I was stood along side the Dribiuld stand chatting to 2 visiting supporters who just go to different grounds to watch football. These 2 supporters were Watford supporters who told me that if O'Toole was ever as good as he thought he was we would have a very good player. He also told me not to build my hopes up as he hadn't done it at his previous clubs
