Flanging was so named because in the days before electronic effects units everything had to be done by hand, and the effect of flanging was produced by having the same sound played by two tape decks simultaneously, and the engineer would lightly rest his finger on the flange of each of the tape spools in turn so that the signal would be minutely delayed relative to each other. Kids! Don't try this at home!
Now that's a great analogue fact blast from the past. Don't tell them the other meaning..! Nobody has a reel-to-reel tape deck anymore [I'm lying, I do but it's not a good one]. I keep looking at them on ebay and trying to find reasons to waste my time buying one. Something along the lines of a non-thrashed Revox A77 or B77 would be dandy**. **Please DON'T tell me where one is.
Er, going to be a tad windy tomorrow and Wednesday. Fran, your fences are in trouble again. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2633858
http://news.sky.com/story/1477814/2-drunk-2-care-woman-jailed-for-fatal-crash They know how to punish drink drivers in America....24 years for killing 2 people. Ruined her own life in the process as well. Better than our pitiful sentencing for causing death by drink-driving.
I'm not one of those people who believe that every death is a manslaughter...accidents do happen (something many people cannot accept), but deaths resulting from a crime (and DUI is a crime) should be treated harshly. And alcoholism or being a drug addict are not excuses....explanations but not excuses.
Torn on this one, purely because of personal experience. One of my very best friends went out with his best buddy when they were in their early 20s. His mate was drinking but was meant to be driving. My friend was 'less drunk' than him so took the wheel instead, crashed and killed his best mate. He was locked up for 2 1/2 years and spiralled into drug and alcohol addiction that was caused by overwhelming guilt (which oddly was made worse by the fact his friend's mother and father were so forgiving). Things got worse and worse when he got out, to the extent that he'd turn up to work with vodka in a water bottle in the morning and used to disappear for days at a time. On one of those occasions I broke into his flat as people were desperate, to find him covered in blood and ****, before we were luckily able to get him into the Priory for in-house therapy. He then became the chairman of the local al-anon group and has helped countless people with addiction issues since (he's been clean for 10 years and counting). He now runs an incredibly successful business overseas and is one of the most inspiring, giving and helpful people I've ever encountered. If he'd been locked up for 20 odd years he'd be dead.
Every drink driving death is manslaughter in my book and should carry a minimum 10 year prison sentence.
Just read that Artur Boruc signed a 2 year contract with us in April 2013 - so I guess he's now out of contract?
I watched the first four episodes as soon as they leaked as I was worried that I'd have some 'Red Wedding' style spoiler plastered over my Facebook news feed or something. Pretty sure that they've only just caught up now right?
The fourth one aired last night yeah. I think it's been fairly slow for GoT so far, particularly the first episode. Seems like it's building now though! I won't say anything specifically incase others haven't seen them yet.
