Happy to wait and see what kind of investment happens in the summer.

I'm hooping it's going to be a busy time for the management team - they really need to get it right.

We'll see. Gomez is quite happy , he's playing, he's got 2+ years left on his contract, if he does go it won't be because he's asked away, it will be Roland balancing the books as his first priority. If Gomez and his family were going purely for the big bucks he'd have gone by now. I believe we'll get another season out of him (Roland permitting) and I hope that when he does go it's not to Chelsea.

Gomez to go to a Club in the top four of the Premiership this Summer and will be loaned back to us for next Season.

Gomez would be far better off sticking with us and getting 40-50 games under his belt next season. He should look at what has happened with Diego Poyet. Imagine we do get £8m for Joe this summer. Does anyone seriously imagine it will be reinevested in Charlton. Liege are in their play offs, aren't they ?

Yes but if Katrien comes to him and says "Sorry Joe, but Roland has agreed a deal with Chelsea to sell you to Arsenal/Chelsea/Manu/etc Thanks and goodbye" would he feel so happy about continuing his apprenticeship with us?

Why are people eager to sell him for 8 million with a loan back?

Keep him for two seasons and possibly sell him for more than double.

He takes advice from his mum who is a lovely woman, however, he does also have an agent who is.... well.... an Agent.

Harry Osbourne was almost as good as Joe when he was 16, broke his leg at 17 while heading a centre away in a pre-season friendly and has never been able to re-capture the same level of performance.... both Joe and Charlton know that a silly accident in training or on the pitch could end his career before it starts.

I believe he wants to stay with us next season, and Luzon also wants him to stay obviously. Efforts to unsettle him must have been made but have apparently failed. Which would mean that any club which wants him would have to do it properly, and approach the club. The response they get would depend on Roland's attitude. If he feels he needs to grab the cash to balance the books short-term then Joe will go the way of Kermorgant. If on the other hand he takes a long term view then he might offer Joe an improved deal to keep him happy, in line with the contribution he's likely to make next season, while watching his value shoot up. I hope this happens, but all we can do is wait while Roland ponders the situation in his office across the seas.

Don't see much different between chambers and Gomez, though he's played at a higher level now.

    He went for 16million.

There is a poster on CL that says that the Club are in negotiations with some Premier League Clubs about the transfer of Gomez which involves a Loan back to us for the Season. He claims it is from a good source but I have no way of knowing if that is true.
I would hope it is not because I want to see Joe playing Centre Half for the next couple of seasons at least.

Glass half empty or half full? Last summer when Joe was away with the England U-19's I was resigned to the Kasey Palmer scenario being repeated, and so was amazed and delighted when he signed a 3-year contract. So that avoided the worst-case scenario. Ideally we'd hang on to him, with a serious attempt at promotion being the carrot to tempt him. We do know that balancing the books is the height of Roland's ambition though, which is a clue as to what will happen.

The noise coming out of POTY was JBG will decide on his future once he sees how ambitious the club are.

Selling Gomez sends out the wrong image IMO. If RD is serious about getting the premiership in the next few years then he stands to earn a lot more.

JBG seemed like he had the hump at poty, totally not up for conversation or giving clues away about what he'd be doing next year.

Yeah a few people have said that.

Others saying Johnson said he was going to the MLS - did you hear that?

The menu looked pathetic for £35 too.

i was still starving after the meal. definitely not worth £35. the sell on value of a signed shirt covers it though :D

johnson just said to ask katrien. i think it's a no from him - we've had weeks already where we knew what division we'd be in and they havent signed anyone on longer deals.

Luckily charlton isn't short of a takeaway!

I'm not disappointed about not signing Johnson. He did well when he came in, but Gomez and a top 6 centre back has to be the pairing next season.

    I've decided not to renew.

I'll spend my money on some new garden furniture.

Might go to the away matches, though.

    Such a shame.

I have no idea how Poyet is doing and nor do you. He is only 20 and has plenty of time. We do know he is earning far more money than at Charlton, and he may well be receiving excellent coaching there. He extracted the most benefit from Charlton in the academy and from Nathan Jones. He did well to escape the disorganized clusterfuck that is our first-team squad.
