Because He didn't create the world and everything on it. That was done by one of his minions who was trying to prove that he was as good as his boss. Unfortunately he wasn't/isn't, which is why there are imperfections in the world.
According to the Gnostics, once you have this knowledge you are on the way to salvation because you are worshiping the true God - the Demiurge. The Gnostics also argue that all this information is obvious if you look at the contradictions within the Old Testament, and that Jesus Christ was sent by the Demiurge, in a Friday afternoon sort of "what shall I do now before I knock off for the weekend" moment, to point all this out. Unfortunately for the Gnostics, Saul of Tarsus weighed in batting for the other side and distorted Christ's message. The Demiurge has yet turn His mind back to what is happening here. That is why Gnostics believe that each of us must make our individual peace with Him. If enough of us do that then, maybe, the Demiurge will turn his mind back to Earth and correct all the imperfections. There is, however, some debate about whether this is likely to happen, especially given the power of people without the knowledge.

Moved from another thread regarding those girls heading to Syria. And a nod to Canary Dave....

Normally I would agree Dave. But in this case I say let them back in with suitable punishment.

They appear to me immature, misguided teens with no real idea of the horrors going on out there. And as soon as they see it - they will be heading 'home' to the safety of the UK faster than a scalded cat. We are a compassionate, liberal society after all.

But to anyone else heading over there and picking up an AK - you have burned your bridges as far as I am concerned. No return and no compassion. How comfortable is that bed now ?

We have two asylum seekers in Reykjavík who will be sent to Danmörk, where they were before coming to Ísland. They are both male and one has said he is ready to act for IS. Our police think they are very dangerous. If they think like this why come to Ísland why not go to where IS are and look for asylum there, is that too dangerous for them? I still do not understand why these people wish to come to Ísland to be terrorists, we are small. Perhaps this is why an easy target. I think the lögrelan should throw them in the sea outside our water. Yhen no more problem for us or Danmörk.

I have this mental picture of a lögrelan as a giant troll with Nordic beard and wild hair, semi-naked with huge hairy arms throwing these IS chaps into the sea where sharks are prowling. Or is this just blatant racism?

There was a small piece in the French news last week about the cartoonist who has been producing images of the prophet. He will no longer do them as he wishes to turn to doing other things. He also does political cartoons, where he is pretty even handed about who he has a poke at.

It might well be provocative but it still continues to show up the medieval intolerant mindset of those who profess to follow the ramblings of an illiterate social climber (married his wife for her money, which by his own scripture, was by no means the worst of his actions) 1500 years later. Maybe that's it... they're centuries years behind the times in the head.
Now, if my opinion offends then tough, we do not have the right not to be offended, less so the right to kill for being offended - particularly where unproven fairy tales designed to keep women submissive to men and the rest of us kowtowing to the whims of those who supposedly have the ear of an inevident and unproven skydaddy are concerned.

Doesn't offend me Fez - I think my views on God and religion are pretty well known on here. However I don't see the point you are making. Do you think Judaism or Christianity are any better than Islam? If you put your mind to it I am certain you could write a post equally damning of Christianity or Judaism ( I know I could).
It is ultimately NOT the religion that is the issue. People appear to have an inbuilt need to believe in fairy tales - good on them - why should anyone else care? However it is when people adopt an intolerant and aggressive attitude towards others whose beliefs they do not share that we have a problem - and as I said in another post somewhere - that could as easily be on animal rights or nuclear weapons as religion. Take issue with bigots -not with honest believers.

Whole heartedly agree but as the incident in the news was yet another attack in the name of Islam I confined my comment to that environment.

Dreading the American Christian loony right getting a president with their finger on the button.

Well I reckon there's some extra special candidates in the republican party standing for the nomination this year. More frightening than usual given the midterm results and the ludicrous positions they hold including a science denier overseeing NASA....
