the art of good management is turning round results by identifying weaknesses introducing solutions. He failed spectacularly at Derby so at the minute he is a busted flush who maybe needs a long holiday for his own good rather than take more pressure.

First posted at half two, its now half ten.

If this is Newcastle's idea of immediately then I hope they do actually appoint him soon.

I think the last spot will go to either us, the Mags or Hull, If hull get anything tonight, then its us and the Mags. But I would hate to Hull's fixtures at this stage of the season.

Newcastle want Steve McClaren as manager IMMEDIATELY

I know what Newcastle want immediately, but I can't say it on here. It has something to do with a*se holes and totem poles, but I'm afraid we must leave it at that..

Newcastle United's ambitions to replace John Carver were given a blow when former England boss Steve McClaren rejected the manager's role.

The ex-Middlesborough boss was tipped as favourite to take over at St James' Park, but he has decided against the move, the Daily Telegraph have reported.

Incumbent Carver held talks with managing director Lee Charnley on Monday in an attempt to explain how Newcastle have lost eight consecutive matches.

McClaren's derby lost out on a Championship play-off spot on the last day after losing 3-0 at home to Reading.

It brought to an end a run of just two wins in ten games for the Rams, seeing them drop out of the top six.

The pressure on Carver has increased following the weekend's loss to Leicester, which culminated in the manager claiming defender Mike Williamson got himself sent off on purpose.

Has anyone ever told you that Steve McClaren is, in fact, a Pole (as in totem pole like). <laugh>

It`s a sad indictment on a PL club that looks for a saviour who`s just achieved failure in a lower division.

And he turns them down. <laugh>

If we get 3 points at Everton the panic will be on up the road. Sadly I can't see it myself.

So many ifs. If we beat West Brom and you lose to Everton we're all but safe. We are after all due a win and those two results are far from the craziest.

By the same token, should you win and we lose I'd say we're all but down.
