Bourne Ultimatum. I'm sorry to say that I'm wading through this, although I like the Bourne stuff, books and films, I'm struggling with this particular book not quite sure why but I usually read in bed and as I get tired put the book down. But with this book I'm closing the pages before feeling sleepy as I've felt as though I've read enough for the night, just don't know why this book doesn't grab me so much.
The Anniversary Man by RJ Ellory. Pretty decent. Apparently Ellory got in trouble a few years back for giving one of his own books a 5 star review, whilst panning one of rivals
Been reading The Dresden Files for the last couole of months. On the latest one just now. Very funny books.
Dead Girl Walking - it's all right but getting a bit jaded with Brookmyre. May give him a miss for a while after this and come back in a couple of years
The Dudley Smith triology by James Elroy - (White Jazz, LA Confidential and The Big Nowhere, all 3 books in one omnibus) I've read them before but love how dark, corrupt, seedy, violent and noir they are - am rereading LA Confidential at the minute, its probably my fav as I love the book and the film.
Slowed down a little over the last month due to work and kids etc. About 63k words in or two thirds, so should be done by July/August now
Not great to be honest. But I can't afford any marketing for it. Doing a few talks in libraries and an interview in the local paper so hopefully that'll help. Without being big-headed, there are successful self-published books out there that aren't a patch on mine, but their authors are spending money on promotion.
ive always felt that is such a shame that a books success is only determined by the amount of marketing/money thrown at it, rather than the quality of writing. But still you could try a carefully targeted pay per click campaign, which you can set budgets on so it doesnt cost too much - all it takes is time to manage. You could link it in with some social media posts and maybe even talking to some bloggers or even give preview chapters to encourage interest/shares/likes ect
I know very little about marketing. How does pay per click work? I've managed to build up a decent following on Twitter but it doesn't really translate into hard sales and is very time-consuming.
