Fair point. There was actually an American guy in Walkington who'd come just to watch the Tour, but he was the only person I saw who was clearly not local. I didn't see any camera crews etc, but then I guess they'd be at the more exciting bits.

If you're a cyclist yourself then I'd say it reminded me of a 'normal' stage of the TdF when it gets away from the cities and the main climbs and was nothing like the Yorkshire stages last year. It was nice, but you'd struggle to justify spending what I think Parnaby said on Look North last was £100k on it again.

I believe by the end of the tour that cost to local authorities will be somewhere in the region of £1.2 million (inc policing & road repairs).......now that takes a lot of justification with the squeeze on the public purse, maybe Hull City Council dodged a bit of a financial bullet

Also there's the costs of disruption to business. The Scarborough to Whitby road was shut for several hours yesterday from the Robin Hood's Bay turn off all the way to Scarborough.

Better cancel marathons, half marathons, Gay Pride marches, Lord Mayor's Parade any victory parades in the unlikely event of FC or Rovers winning something ( our chairman wouldn' allow a City one) and anything else which would mean closing roads. Not to mention anything to do,with the City Of Culture which may affect traffic.

Rode ou to Newbald tbrough Walkington. Fab to see all the bunting, flags and painted bikes etc. Rode down Burgate and back up Trundlegate. Fab to be part of it. Am led to believe Hull will be part of it in 2017.

If there is one in 2017 & if it can be accommodated in the already tight budget......by 2017 the £100k+ might be much more without generating any more interest in the city

<laugh> The only reason I said it was that Charie1 said she was will a group of women riders, so I was looking out for that. The group which I thought it might be had both genders.
