Williamson: John Carver says defender 'got sent off on purpose' Newcastle United manager John Carver thinks his defender Mike Williamson was sent off on purpose as an "easy way out" in their 3-0 defeat by Leicester. The centre-back was shown a second yellow for barging Jamie Vardy when the pair were off the pitch, while Daryl Janmaat was also sent off later on. "I thought he'd done that on purpose - it looks like he did," Carver said. "The ball was off the pitch - he had no need to make the challenge. He will miss two games. Is it an easy way out?" Carver had not calmed down by the time of the post-match news conference. "I thought he meant it. When the ball went on to that left-hand side my first reaction was don't do it. He did it. Vardy was off the pitch, Willo was off the pitch, the ball was off the pitch. There was no need to do it and I'm not accepting that. "I told him that to his face. I don't want to go into his reaction." Carver was furious with his side and in honest post-match interviews said: "On a scale of one to 10, it is a minus 10." "I asked if everyone understood their roles and responsibilities. I can't go and mark men on the pitch myself." "If we're not willing to compete, get your head onto the ball and risk getting an injury, you won't get anywhere." "We'll have an open discussion on Monday - it'll be interesting." "There might have been players who didn't try - maybe they don't think they'll get a new contract or be here next year. But they're getting paid and should try." please log in to view this image Mike Williamson was sent off after just over an hour Of his side's other red card, Carver said: "I got keeper Tim Krul to speak to Daryl Janmaat, I told him to stay calm and he didn't. The game had gone away from us. We can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot." The Magpies have lost eight consecutive Premier League games under Carver, who is in charge until the end of the season, to put them in relegation trouble. Newcastle conceded a Leonardo Ulloa goal after 38 seconds and a Wes Morgan strike in the 17th minute. Ulloa sealed the game after the break from a penalty. Carver out of his depth - Keown Former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown on Final Score was not impressed with the Newcastle manager. "When you're in a position like Newcastle are in, you have to stick together, but John Carver is digging players out. There was a lack of desire granted but he is out of his depth at the moment. "It's not just about demanding the effort. He needs guidance on how to behave because he is taking players apart. Just don't say it. If he was an experienced head, a long-term manager, he wouldn't do that." 'Worst-case scenario for Newcastle' Ex-Nottingham Forest left-back Stuart Pearce was at King Power Stadium for BBC 5 live. "There were flashes of decent play from Newcastle in the first half but not in the second half. The worst-case scenario you could paint for the football club has happened - they lost 3-0 and had two players sent off. The finger of blame should not be pointed at the manager but solely at the players. They need to give more for this wonderful club. "I think 35 points will only be enough because at least three teams will not achieve that mark. But it could be nervous times at Newcastle in the last three games." How the journalists saw his news conference Northern Echo journalist Scott Wilson on Twitter:"Brutal honesty from Carver with written press. Completely stood by Williamson comments and said Colback/Krul only players excused of blame one more win for us and we are safe as these boys are for the drop
Good article mate ....... a club in total crisis and Carver could be the 2nd Geordie in a row to take them down
Well, I don't give a toss what journalists think. I'm gonna say "well said, Mr. Carver". I think Newcastle should give this falla a chance. Because with his balls, he might just clear the sh*t out of your club. He clearly has ambition, he clearly has the guts to confront your freeloaders, and I would say give him a chance. Whether or not time is on his side this season is a different matter. It is getting rather tight down here. But I rather like this interview. Full marks to him.
There's a time to say these things and a time to have a tiny bit of sense and see the bigger picture. Carver's in absolutely no position to be lecturing anyone.
Not only is he out of his depth, he`s an idiot. Slagging them off in public will do more harm than good.
It will also demoralise the great support they've had just at the wrong time ...... a totally idiotic outburst.
Well, either Carver or the team is a bunch of gutless morons. Okay, Pardew wasn;t doing all that badly with them, but was that due to Pardew's merit, or the merit of the squad? Personally, I think the answer lies at Palace. Just look at the league table and see what you think. I thinik Newcastle's problem right now isn't the manager, it's the players. And I sincerely hope it continues.
Mags look ****ed with a brick-a-brac defence. Cisse's return always said to me they had a point or two in them. Now they look ****ed. Could be us or them lads.
I think it"'s between us and them to be honest. If they keep Carver I can't see them getting another point. They have left it too late to change. A win against Leicester could be enough. That won't be easy though. Considering we tried to throw 3 points away today against 10 man Southampton. Boy do I not like this three strikers tactic.
Poor guy's so out of his depth! If ever anyone questions the difference between being a coach and a manager, here's the perfect example.
Personally I am delighted he's said it. Couldn't see them getting another point think Carvers just guarenteed it.
that's worse than PDC style handgrade management. is it possible for them to further implode? i hope so.
I have alot of respect for his honesty as he told it how it was. Players deserve a kick up the arse and a manager has every right to single the idiots out. Three games left, two defenders out through suspensions caused by daft tackles, at this time of the season was/is unbelievably stupid. He has enough problems without players adding to them, he set them up with instructions which they dutifully ignored.
Still think the town will nick a win from somewhere. Although I thought that over the past few games!
