If I remember correctly it was ex-Saint Paul Rideout who led the 4-3 charge in that game.

Many years ago. It's gone. I always wonder with situations, where regret pops up, is would we be in such a great position these days if the result had been different.

For example, if Saints had survived relegation from either the PL or later, the Championship, we would almost certainly still be under the chairmanship of Lowe & Co. Yuck..! Thank goodness we went into administration and rose like a phoenix. :)

Refreshing view from Leroy Rosenior on the situation at Blackpool. Of course he couldn't condone the pitch invasion, but he had sympathy for their supporters. Karl Osyton said to judge him at the end of the season. Well he's been judged and found very wanting indeed.

In an act of crass stupidity, Blackpool took down the fans and council funded bronze statue of former hero Stan Mortensen this week early on Tuesday morning. The explanation was that it was done for safety reasons: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ped-shed-Oyston-s-remove-Bloomfield-Road.html

    Yep, that looks unsafe.

    Humph.

Just got back after setting off at 4am. I don't even really know what to say. That really, really did hurt.

I'm sure they'll do well in the play-offs. Just think though, you could be a Blackpool fan.

What does everyone make of this? (involving our own Lloyd Isgrove!)

Seems the ref had no choice, (but then, it's a clear goalscoring opportunity) but Sheff Wed fans (rightly so, perhaps), were a bit peed off!

Noticed that last night while watching the FL show. From what I could make out, the crowd invaded the pitch as the ref had the whistle in his mouth, but he hadn't blown it yet. It didn't make any difference to the top two standings, but a game should play out its time. Perhaps it was just a matter of not quite playing out the ref's discretionary seconds that he added on..?

MK Dons promoted to the Championship. Preston into play offs after losing 1-0 to Colchester, who stay up at the expense of Notts County.

Quite pleased for MK Dons. Another southern-ish club, not from London, making an impression in the football world. And besides, Ben Reeves gets to play in a tier more befitting his skill.

Very hard on Preston to finish on 89 and not go up!! Well done to the Dons who have done magnificently to chase PNE down!! Can Preston pck themselves up after such a shattering result? It will be difficult !! I have a nagging feeling that Sheffield United who have done next to nothing in the League since March may come alive again!!

I have a bit of sympathy for Preston NE. A proper football club. Hopefully they'll make it through the play-offs but I know what you mean.

And while we've been on about Bournemouth and other winning sides, and sides who just missed out, perhaps we ought to take a few minutes to appreciate Bristol City's achievements this season. Another southern side on the up. Good news. We want more of them:

Know that feeling! Southend's total of 84 points would be enough for them to have been promoted in 19 out of the last 20 seasons.

Who was it last time, that missed out? Southend, with 83 points - during Paul Sturrock's tenure.
