QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has released the following statement ... QPR defender Rio Ferdinand has today (Saturday 2nd May 2015) released the following statement: 'My soul mate slipped away last night. Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. She was a fantastic loving mother to our three beautiful children. She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter. She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration. Myself, my parents Janice and Julian, along with Rebecca's parents Lesley and Stephen, would like to thank our families, friends and my club colleagues who have rallied around in these desperate days, weeks and months. I would also like to express my gratitude for the dedication and expertise of the staff led by Professors Johnstone and Clarke at the Royal Marsden. Their valiant efforts to prolong Rebecca's all-too-short life will not be forgotten. Our grief, as a family, is total. We would appreciate being allowed to mourn privately.' The thoughts of everyone at Queens Park Rangers Football Club are with Rio and his family at this immensely difficult time. please log in to view this image Read more at http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/r...ca-ferdinand-2435616.aspx#izOXH1hT7yQXKokv.99
Indeed, very sad. I've said before that we need to keep some perspective when we are questioning players performances and managers team selections, there are often other things at play. Thoughts are with him and his family.
To all those who have been slating the man for picking up his wages for doing sod all, now we know why (me included). Condolences to Rio and Family, absolutely devastating news. R.I.P. Rebecca
Opinions about his contribution to the club aside, that's a truly devastating thing to happen to anyone. Best wishes to Rio and RIP Rebecca.
Wow, I had no idea she was even ill. Very difficult time ahead for him and his three children, wish him all the best in coping in the months ahead RIP
I and and few others need to have a little peek in the mirror out our selves I've said some ****ty things regarding Rio , bloody awful his head must have been alover the plc Perspective completely put back into Place
Truely shocking news. My sincere condolences. As an after thought...we really do not know what goes on behind the scenes, and on personal issues like this it is none of our business either...but all those who have slagged him off at various stages, which includes me, we really do not know ...taught me a lesson Back to the main issue, my heart goes out to him and to his children at this time..It is so sad when a young mother is taken by cancer and in truth I cannot imagine what he is going through RIP
Truly awful news, no one should leave this world at such a young age, Rio and their children must be devastated. My thoughts are with Rio and his family. RIP Rebecca, a life far too short.
Our thoughts must be with Rio and his family. All at QPR are behind you. As already said, puts it all into perspective. Relegation is one thing, life and death another, regardless of what Bill Shankly once said.
Terrible news. This explains quite a lot imo. I apologise for questioning Rio's motives over the last few months. This really highlights that we don't know what is going on with some players' lives. Sincere condolences to Rio and his young family. RIP Rebecca. (Can this forum send a message of condolences to the club?)
