Cologne - in life there are those who try to find compromises and agreement - and others who do not understand that acting like a bull in a china shop prevents people taking their arguments seriously - perhaps they enjoy winding people up more than debating. I know which category I would pick for many of us on here

On the whole I agree with your modifications except on interest - even Arabs who do not allow interest have to find ways to persuade people to "lend". You could not achieve an interest free society without total reform - which I do know you support - but would find little common ground. Did we not debate land ownership etc near the beginning of this thread?

Not quite true. Figures show that 253,000 UK citizens live in France with just 57,000 of them retired. That means there are a lot working out here.

Is anyone living in a marginal constituency? I think part of the reason I am finding this campaign so tedious is I'm in a pretty safe Labour seat as the incumbent has a majority of 8,000. There hasn't really been any campaigning at all.

This is a political thread not a fairy story competition.
There are many Brits living in France way below the retirement age who were not working there. In the Tarn I knew many ex pats like myself with dividends and / or rental income from the UK. These would not show up.

That may be so but there is no need to be rude to other posters. This thread has really caught light again in the last few days - don't spoil it please.

Unfortunately no. I live in the constituency where the incumbent is that media seeking whore Nadine Dorries, who has a massive majority and is little likely to be voted out. I am going to vote against her as a pure protest against her – she should have had her arse kicked out of parliament after she decided appearing on a ****e TV programme was more important than doing what she receives a nice salary for. Before anyone gets on their high horse about my choice of words, she lives in the same village as I do and I have given her both barrels on a number of occasions.

<laugh> Yes I know all about the wonderful Nadine - my sister lives in Turvey. My brother in law is one of the most polite people I have ever known. The only time i have heard him swear in the 20 years he's been with my sister is when he talks about his MP!

Either you are going to try to debate (which means respecting the opinions of others, even if you don't agree with them) or you are going to spend your time only trying to wind people up with snide comments and insulting behaviour - please decide which !

Nope -solid Tory seat - Andrew Tyrie - in since 1997 and got 55% of the vote last time with Libs second on 27%. So I am free to vote anything and not influence the result :azn: or

I certainly respect other peoples opinions bu have a problem with your inconsistances. You advocate saddling the UK population with a high tax left wing regime whilst for yourself a dodgy tax haven is suitable. You couldn't make it up.

Yes me!!! Held by Malcolm Bruce LibDem gentleman respected across the house but retiring and being contested by the slimiest politician standing for Westminster one Alex Salmond who if the number of posters and amount of trees being pushed through my door with horrible frankly should be banned (pictures of the slimy toad asking for our vote) may gain the seat. My postal vote went in and will not affect the result as it went following my beliefs and not any tactics but the other 4 family members here can help keep him out...

There is no contradiction - Switzerland may be a tax haven for people who earn their money outside the country and then send it there, (London is the same for some people). However I live in Germany, earn my money here - vote here (which you will be relieved to hear) and pay all my taxes here. I would do exactly the same in Switzerland if I lived there.

So you are quite happy to live under a government in which its banks kept large amounts on Nazi stolen gold/cash and is the financial home to some of the world's most corrupt regimes which plunder the wealth from its citizens.
This does not seem to tie in with your left wing ideals.

You have much more in common with the UK fat cats than could have been imagined. Are you a banker in disguise?
