Shame, by far the best full back in the club and would be nailed of starter at RB had he been fit.

Hope he he extends his contract and comes back twice as strong next year b

He is. Just because he can put in a couple of crunching tackles every now and again, doesn't make him a great tackler.

I really don't understand how anyone could have watched us last year and not Rate him.

I i know there's this kokey thing about him saving our season etc, but you look at the way he tackles, guy is old school in that he goes in hard but fair, wins the ball and then takes out the man. Because he wins the ball so cleanly it's never a foul though. He HAD to be a good tackler because if he's not hed get booked and sent off too much.

Hes bot not going to bomb down the wing but his passing last year was so improved. He rarely have the ball away and made positive passes forward.

Yes a he's not the quickest or best in the air but that's why he's not in the top bracket but what he can do is defend properly, something none of our other full backs seem capable of.

  12. Never seen him miss a tackle so in my book, that makes him a great tackler. However, if you are suggesting he doesn't always tackle when the opportunity arises then that is surely reading of the game or anticipation, its not actual tackling is it <doh>

Injury has not been kind to Flanagan. I remember when he scored that goal against Spurs, wishing
    him a speedy recovery.

Shaw, blind, Valencia, rafael, Montreal, Gibbs, Clichy, Sagna.

Id say he matches any of those.

Feel bad for him, the concern is will he ever get over these injuries and will he ever be the same?

  16. Last season, he showed he was capable of being better than most of them. Question is, will the injuries take their toll on him?

That list doesn't help his case, has Beens, never were, and mancs <ok>

    Very selective and all,

Finally underestimating some of those too. Blind and monreal in particular

No first line city full backs, no Chelsea players in list, no belarin (sp?)

Of course its selective... You said he doesn't match up to current top 4 standard. I 'selected' full backs from top 4 clubs that he was more than equal to last year.

Chelseas as full backs are 2 of the best in Europe but just because he's not as good as then doesn't mean he's no good at all.

If if we're only going to buy players that Are better than all other in that position in our league then out shopping targets are going to be very restricted.

edt: and blind isn't a full back really. He's a decent CM who can do a job there (bit like Barry 5 years ago) and Monreal is very very average.

Absolutely, heck last year might have been his one decent season and never be as good, but doesn't alter the fact last year he was and he deserves a new contract to try and prove that case <ok>

  20. Your approach of picking the best players to compare our with suggests you wouldn't be happy until we'd got a unquestionable world XI in our team.
