I have no doubt the Pozzo's will plan to strengthen the squad for the Prem if they want us to stay there and will provide the players and bring more in if some of the current squad members cannot cut it. From my view, although I only see what's on telly, our passing is not good enough and this technical side needs improving as we loose the ball too often.

We have not seen Doyley for a while, I wonder what his plans are, anyone know? Move on? Coaching? He has been a good servant/legend and I would like to see him on the bench on Saturday and if we are in a comfy position be given a run out.

Don't think you'll see him on the bench on Saturday - he's having a neck operation according to the Wobby. Someone mentioned on another thread that he was rumoured to be off to Shrewsbury - although this suggests otherwise... http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...me_of_the_season_as_he_requires_neck_surgery/

For what it's worth (noy much probably), I think our style will do quite well, given we tighten up considerably at the back. Simply, we need fullbacks who are tall and quick to cut out the long diagonal passes that have been all other teams favourite ploy against us. Actually, it's the formation. 3 at the back is fine when the wingbacks are near by, not when we lose the ball in middle third. Pudil reads the game better than Paredes, and I think Hoban covers there better - but he is not a wingback. So we have to decide what formation is best. Pudil doesn't seem to be thought of as a wingback, and hoban only as one of a back 3.
Creatively we are fine - see 60 minutes at Etihad last season - it was no fluke - but we do have to convert a higher percentage of chances. I think Ighalo wil be a revelation ! But hey, let's not get ahead. En joy the moment- it's brilliant !

That's him. He was a better diver than Ighalo is.

It's going to be very interesting. One could argue that our squad is already better suited to prem than championship style. We've adapted the players to get the promotion but its not too much of a stretch to believe that a lot are now entering their element and a bit of tinkering will put us right in the mix. I believe we are better positioned player and structure wise than we've ever been for the prem and this could be a fun ride...

Apparently you can get 200-1 on us finishing in the top 6. Not being a betting man, I won't be taking up the offer.

Interesting article on the Udinese page

Gino Pozzo: "Watford is not taking resources away, it's an opportunity"
"The collaboration with Udinese allowed our footballer toh ave the chance to mature".
    [ 02.05.2015 ]
The last win hasn't come, yet the Hornets have already got themselves the tickets to enter next year's Premier League one match in advance. Vicarage Road bestowed the heroes who brought back Watford in England's top league, which is considered to be Europe's most fascinating tournament.
After the match, Udinese Channel was there to collect images and interviews. One of the interviewees is Gino Pozzo, who wanted to reassure Udinese's fans: "The collaboration with Watford has never taken away Udinese's resources. It has only created opportunity of growth for our players. Many footballers who didn't find their room in Udine have found their identity here at Watford".
It's been a long and winding road that led Watford to this achievement..
"The Championship is a tough tournament. All the matches are played until the very end. We feel extremely satisfied for achieving such a prestigious goal".
    What are your future programs?
"We are starting to prepare for the next season, we need to make some major changes,# but we have the enthusiasm and resources we need to face this new adventure".
One of the most important players is Italian defender Gabriele Angella.
"We feel a bit bitter - said Angella to Udinese Channel - because we haven't reached the first place, but we have what we came for, and we are very happy".
What has impressed you most of this experience in English football?
"Supporters are amazing here, stadia are always sold out, it's unbelievable. Now we want to grow up and play in the Premier League".
Also Udinese's former player Marco Motta has given his contribution to the squad.
"It is a wonderful day - Motta said to Udinese Channel - we feel extremely happy. I've been here just for three months but I felt immediately at home. We have wonderful supporters who deserve this, as well as all the people who work for Watford and our president. We will play in the Premier League, which is the most beautiful tournament, as well as the toughest one. If we avoid relegation, that will be a win".

we need to make some major changes,#

Hmm indeed Yorkie - but I guess we all realise that as the ride has been far too bumpy to say that all the squad deserve their chance. We all have our opinions on who should go and who should stay, but results have simply hidden a truth - that many players really weren't up to the job in the division, and would simply bring us back down again if retained.

It puts me in mind of Ray Train, who coincidentally shares with Connolly the honour of having been involved with four clubs in their promotion to the top flight, a fan's favourite in GT's squad. I, as were many others, was amazed when GT dropped him - yet subsequent results proved that GT was the genius, not us.

With the Pozzos it is constant evolution - I see that continuing. They will perpetually find players from around the world and then fit them into their 3 teams. Being in the Prem now means that we will just get slightly more of the cream (Pozzos are businessmen and the Prem is the richest). I wonder what their attitude really is to the development of youngsters though - will the Academy be beefed up further - if it provides players ......

Spot on Leo. They have football as their main business these days, not something that they do as a sideline to larger interests. They will continue with the model that has been so successful over a long period of time. Why change something that is not broke. I believe that we are seeing the first stages in the development of our younger players with the upgrading of status in the unfair system that exists. Also the work that has been done and continues, to improve facilities at London Colney is a further sign of wanting to bring young talent forward, even if it is to make a handy profit on them.

Ther is one thing about which we can be sure - we will not be given any real idea about targeted players until the deal is done. That goes for those who are destined to leave, as well. The Pozzos have always worked discretely, and I can't see that changing.

Can anyone explain "We need to make major changes " but they are are not going to overspend ? Im thinking that they will bring in 6 new faces , keeper,2/3 at the back ,2/3 in mid Field and poss a striker . there could be a few that did not get the time on the pitch that they wanted so will want to go i.e. fester i love him to bits but he is better that 4 th in line

Well, whatever changes are made and whichever players we get in, let's just thank our lucky stars that it won't be a repeat of this...

If we are to sign Vydra on a permanent deal, I think it'll have to be done before he goes to the Euro U-21 championship as I can see him having a decent tournament in his home country. I think looking at his record at WBA isn't a fair reflection as he started the season with a hamstring injury, and then never really got the game time to get fully match fit after that.
