There's a few really good names there that would add significant quality to our squad.

There are, if we can get in early enough . Next season is so important and no doubt football agents all over will be thinking , EPL = kerching !!! , unfortunately . We have to invest as do obviously every other team but I just hope we do not get sucked in into a bidding war .

I like Ayew, Baptistao and Tabanou best.
Castaignos would be a good option to replace Emnes also.

I don't think Mitrovic is likely to choose us.

Would like to see us have another go at signing Johnnie Williams also as I feel he would just fit.

    Some more British players I like (who are realistic) include;
Trippier (RB - Burnley), Liam Bridcutt (DM - Sunderland), Kasper Schmeichel (Danish but counts as HG....GK - Leicester), Paul McShane (CB - Hull), Wayne Hennessey (GK - Palace), Kenneth Omeruo (CB/RB - Chelsea), Albert Adomah (Wing - Boro), Gary Hooper (ST - Norwich), Adam Henley (RB - Blackburn), Grant Hanley (CB - Blackburn), Sam Byram (RB - Leeds), George Williams (Wing - Fulham), Hal Robson-Kanu (Wing - Reading), David Stockdale (GK - Brighton) and Emyr Huws (MC - Wigan)

Have we ever brought players in that we were linked to this early? (Other than those like Gomis we'd been after for more than a season.)

All I'm hoping for is that we strengthen the areas that need strengthening in the Summer & not wait until January.

As things stand and if we keep our main 15, I feel we need

Left back (personally I'd go for two and off load Taylor as he wants away anyhow)
Two wings (if we are occasionally going to surprise the opposition next season) as much as I am thrilled by Montero I can't see him staying injury free
Cover for Cork - and as much as we all love Leon it seems unlikely he'll regain playing time due to injury and fitness.
Cover for Rangel (age) / Naughton (injury) may need beefing up, we have seen what happens when you try playing a centre back at full back ... it doesn't work.
Striker / centre forward - I'd be a little twitchy if we have Gomis, Oliveira & possibly Emnes as our strike force to open the season. Gomis and Oliveira maybe wonderful but neither have convinced of their ability to keep scoring goals throughout the season. Gomis - slow start & injury. Nelson - lack of opportunity)

It seems that most seem to want to bring in several players for next season. However I think we should be looking at players already on our books to act as backup. E.g. Liam Shephard (voted Yeovil's young player of the year) at right back, Stephen Kingsley, who by all accounts has done well on loan at left back, Jay Fulton as cover for Jack Cork. This would allow us to spend big on a quality striker and a winger. Also we may need cover at goalkeeper but it will not be easy to get an experienced one to come and sit on the bench. If the Michu situation is not resolved I would like us to keep Oliveira as I think he could be versatile enough to cover attacking midfield and up front.

Why do we need a goalkeeper? Is Tremmel going?

The summer will, I think, have Monk playing human chess as some players will want to move and that will dictate some players coming in. And he will be able to assess the loners development.
While it would be good to see youngsters covering first team places I fear they are not advanced enough or Monk would have already called on them.
I'd be happy with Jazz covering right back - much, much better than Shephard IMO, but as Monk didn't pick Hanley when Taylor was off I can't see Shepherd being entrusted with a first team place ... even as cover. And Mr Richards may have said too much for Monk when he commented that he enjoyed being allowed an attacking role in Fulham but not in Swansea.
Kingsley is an odd one. Having played nearly 100 senior games in Scotland he still doesn't get a look in for us and even though we had no left back cover.
I believe Monk rates Fulton although I haven't seen anything special ...yet. But he's another ready made cover sent out on loan when Leon and Carroll were unavailable.
As much as I love to see Michu back I don't think it will happen. :emoticon-0106-cryin

We have all seen players that we have been linked with and the point I was trying to make is that we obviously have to work to a budget. Our present first team squad is going to be our backbone next season but there are going to be occasions when a player is injured or suspended for a relatively small number of games. I don't think we should be using our budget to sign expensive players just to cover these games. I would rather the money be spent on a striker and winger, positions that need strengthening, to bring extra quality to the squad. We don't want to be like Newcastle with an aging squad and reportedly a new manager going to need up to ten new players.

Wouldn't disagree in principle but we don't necessarily have to spend beyond our means to bring in two or three quality players.
My point is, it's unclear whether or not we have the quality on our books to step up when needed.

It will be strange when Ash, Rangel and Leon finish if they leave the club (and I think none has more than season left in them) as they (with Dyer possibly) represent our journey from the depths and represent all that has been good about the Swans for the past 10 years.
Who will be our heart and soul?

Is Carroll injured atm? Can't remember the last time he played.
If Brenda gets the sack which is a possibility given tonight against Hull, if we had the chance to sign Joe and sell Jonjo I'd take that.
I too would like to see us sign Jonny and George Williams.

I think Liverpool with Carragher and Gerrard finishing have also lost their heart and as regards us I can't think of anyone who can be regarded as our heart and soul when the players you mention finish.. Incidentally the reason I think we may be looking for another goalie is that Tremmel was only given a 12 month extension to his contract which suggests, reading between the lines, that we will be looking for another No 2 keeper.

Yes Carroll is injured and out for the rest of the season. I don't think Joe and Jonjo can be compared as they play different roles in the team. If Joe came back to us he would be a rival for Cork. I don't think either of the Williams would bring greater quality to the squad which is what we should be seeking in the Summer.

Shame. He was doing well. Hopefully we can sign him (can be our long term Leon replacement with regards to the way Leon plays). Him and Cork would add real quality to our defensive area with Fulton as third choice DM.
As for Jonjo and Jonny Williams, personally if Palace came calling for Jonjo again this summer I'd jump at the chance to do a swap deal involving the two. George Williams has also impressed me when playing for Wales on the wing and midfield and imo would offer more than the likes of Emnes.
Plus both Williams are very young too.

A striker and a keeper are the players we will have to pay good money for with the rest bought within our means. we must not go overboard with our spending and im sure jinx will make sure we don't....

JonJo has been the difference between winning and losing in many games this season.....JonJo every time and would be the first name penciled in on the team sheet..

Agree totally but I can't see Monk investing in Carroll or he would have played him more often.
And Monk won't sell Jonjo unless he really has to. As far as I'm concerned Jonjo is a distraction and what he brings is very limited .. there are far better players out there.
Players we can't lose (for slightly different reason, e.g. Rangel for back up and now being Swansea to the core) IMO
Fab, Rangel, Naughton, Amat, Fed, Ash, Cork, Ki, Siggurdson, a fit Michu, Montero, Routledge, Dyer, maybe Leon (my hero too but isn't playing and hasn't been fit for most of the season.

Some of the names we are linked to are quite inviting Tabanou & Baptistao would be brilliant.
But I can't get excited about Luc Castaignos I think I'd prefer Rhodes!
