I've just cooked sunday lunch for leftie friends of 40 years. I don't think I will remind him how fantastic Maggie was. There are more important things than politics.

    Enjoy the weekend all.

.it is criminal in my eyes -the real creators of wealth -the workers are robbed and exploited to an obscene degree -it's some feat by the privileged few, to fool most of the people most of the time -but time and history are not on their side -one day a proper socialist movement will right the wrongs!

I am not sure that I want to get drawn into this debate but unless workers work with their hands on land that is theirs and not with tools and other things made by others then at best they must share the fruits of their labour with others. So it is then a question of how much each side put in and what they deserve to take out. Slogans talking of robbery and exploitation are not arguments but just sentiments as to how a person feels - a fair enough position but not one that is debateable rally

"Shock horror on the sofa of The Andrew Marr Show this morning, when two politicians from opposing parties actually engaged in a lively discussion.
Moreover, those two politicians were mayor of London Boris Johnson and Labour leader Ed Miliband, who could very well be facing off across the despatch box at prime minister’s questions after the general election.
In just over two minutes, producers on the BBC1 show came up with the best TV of the election campaign so far, but infuriatingly Miliband and Johnson were told to literally “shut up” by presenter Marr so he could introduce a musical epilogue from country band the Shires.
You can watch the clip below, in which Boris claims he and Miliband went to the same primary school, and the Labour leader urges the mayor to ditch Tory strategist Lynton Crosby in the event of him becoming leader."

    Love it!!!

Thought I would give some of the lefties a chuckle.

As I recently moved my family back to the area I unfortunately assumed that being on the council tax list qualified us to vote. Unfortunately this is not the case and you have to specifically sign up to the electoral register. So my household of Tories are not eligible to vote on the 7th May. I hope my local tory MP, Mike Penning will not need a few extra votes to stay in his position!!!

I have thought of a plan to demonstrate until the authorities see sense and give me the vote. I intend to stand in the pond in Watford high street after the game on Saturday by myself until they relent , it should work.

When they are young it is more attractive to believe there is some magical alternative to the current tried and tested political system. As they grow up and understand the complicated world we live in they gradually comprehend why things are the way they are. There are numerous examples of other not so democratic regimes around the world which have failed their people miserably.

Brand has to pretend there is an alternative or else he would be just another unfunny comedian. He is a fool.

...and that says in one why the views of the right will fail to attract many young people. no attempt to engage just call them fools.

We were all young once... and the ideals of youth fuel the actions of the elders.....

If you read my post properly I called Brand a fool not young people in general. It is natural for the young to seek alternatives whether it is lifestyle, music or politics. There are many instances of tory MP's being supporters of left wing ideals at uni. Like most people they just grow up and become realistic.

Oh yes I saw that you called Brand, with 9.5 million twitter followers, a fool....... but the deprecation made by so called realists to idealists is that a sign of the wisdom. of age?... it may be folly but I am sure he is no more a fool than Boris Johnson or any other

We are all born idealists, until life ****s us all.”
M.F. Moonzajer, LOVE, HATRED AND MADNESS

in any case I think a lot of Tory party policy is actually idealism........ and labour etc etc

But to call a man a fool.... I suggest reveals ones own prejudices

I simply posted it as a contribution to the debate with particular reference to the disenfranchised....as they see it... youth....

The interview he did with Paxman, a Tory, was revelatory... where he challenged Paxman to concede the most politicans he interviewed, lied, evaded, and basically bulshitted. My 19 year old daughter about to vote for the first time sees that so clearly

I don't support Brand of course.... but he speaks for many

So, in other words, socialism is simply a silly phase which people go through when they are young and eventually grow out of like measles ! Sorry but I cannot debate with such unbelievable arrogance as this is.

Quite frankly given some of the "promises" currently being made they'd be as well listening to Brand as any of the party leaders.

Brand is a fool, he never comes up with any solutions.

It is easy to bash the banks but last week's news that HSBC 'might' consider a move away from London should be a warning not to be excessive. There is a limit to soaking the well off. Most of the vitriol is driven by pure jelousy.

Entrepreneurs like myself have too many choices in today's world. Will the socialists bring back Wilson's controls on how much you can take out of the country? Guards at the border stopping people leaving as in many socialist countries?

The UK is enjoying the majority of the inward investment in Europe, it is quite easy for us to create an unfavourable climate which would result in less investment. Nobody in their right mind would set up a business in France at the moment, total basket case.

This and other of your posting demonstrates an unwillingness to debate meaningfully.....

You seem to say people who don't share your views are fools, basket cases etc....... dangerous position to take

And I read an article yesterday I think which says we could lose our AAA rating if Cameron gets in and fixes the taxation for 5 years. It was also discussed on Radio 4. Apparently these top financiers like countries to be freed up to respond to changes in the economy and legislating for no tax increases seriously limits that.

I agree very foolish move by the tory high command to promise to fix some tax rates.

I also think that the credit agencies would consider a Labour / SNP government which slowed down on our austerity plan, therefore leaving us with larger interest payments, a real danger to our credit rating. We could start falling to socialist France's level.

It's complete madness Yorkie - why would you tie yourself in a strait jacket like that? My worry is that he's trying to be clever - if he isn't able to raise taxes he will slash public spending like never before - and he would need to do it very quickly in the event of an emergency. That would be interesting if we went to war again - a few hospitals closed down to fund it... Well, it's no less believable than having guards on the border stopping people leaving the country.
