So... either the journalist hasn't done his research (ie he's crap at his job) or he was trying to be mischievous by attempting to get Pearson to dwell on gossip and/or create a bit of drama by getting Pearson to respond to those critics. Even way, as Nige says, he's a very silly man. I don't know why Nige gives these reporters the time of day. He should just say "I'm not answering that" or "I'm not going there" and leave it at that. I wonder if he's actually create a reputation as unpredictable after he was accused by a certain set of fans of giving boring interviews.
He acted like that with our local media too, to be honest I didn't mind it so much but that interview looked like he was crossing a line into bullying
